Principal Message

Dear Families,
Education Support (ES)
Across all schools, we have an incredible group of staff known as Education Support (ES). At our school, our ES staff who mentor and assist students in the classroom are called Learning Mentors (LMs). This weekend, we celebrate all the wonderful ES staff across our education system, those supporting students in classrooms, our dedicated office staff, and our wonderful librarian. Their care, commitment and support make a positive difference in the lives of students and staff every day.
If you know one of our ES staff members, please take a moment to give them a massive “thank you” when you see them.
Spelling Bee
I have heard a whisper that later this term there will be a buzz about the school as the Spelling Bee returns! Stay tuned for an update from Ms McKeon soon.
Year 6 GRIP leadership conference
Yesterday I had the pleasure of spending the day with our 5 school captains learning about leadership with students from a range of schools across the region. The students were in and out of their comfort zones, meeting other student leaders, engaging on stage and learning what leadership can look like, feel like and even what they may want to achieve in their positions. I look forward to seeing what Darko, Maya, Hettie, Ava and Alfie achieve during the year.
Reports & EBA negotiations
You may have seen or heard via various media outlets that the AEU are in negotiations with the state government and DE. As the negotiations were not progressing, various stop work actions have been implemented or will be implemented. The next aspect that will be impacted will be reports. Bans on report writing comments and subject overviews will be implemented. The mid year report will have an overall dot point assessment for the subject areas taught, but no overview statements or comments will be available. Staff appreciate your patience while EBA negotiations are in play and we hope that a great deal is struck soon so we can get back to what we do so well - teaching and learning!
Gordon Institute
We look forward to welcoming the Gordon Institute students back to school to add value to our playground. This term they will start to uplift the area between the amphitheatre and the garden area. Please welcome them when you see them.
Year 5 Camp
A massive thanks to the staff and volunteers who attended camp last week with the Year 5 cohort. No doubt a few tired young people last weekend. It was great to visit for the day and see students being challenged and encouraged outside of their comfort zones. These camps involve much planning, communication and organising and the staff have done a terrific job.
Have a great week everyone!
