Year 3-6 Cross Country

Our students in Years 3 – 6 hit the cross-country track a couple of weeks ago, competing for the Sister Barbara Amott Shield at our cross-country carnival. In perfect weather, all competitors put their best foot forward to the utmost of their ability and earnt valuable points for their houses. The beauty of the cross-country carnival is that absolutely everyone can compete, and it was fantastic to see the grit and determination on all faces to finish the course. Well done to everyone who participated on the day and gave their all.

Presentation of the shield and age group winners will be made at next week’s line up. Information regarding the interschool carnivals will be forwarded to relevant families in the coming weeks.

Half-Field Hockey

Joshua Weir has again put his coaching hat on for the 2024 hockey season. Joshua continues to encourage, teach and guide all athletes in his team, ensuring that positivity and sportsmanship are at the forefront of every game.

The SMC Blue team has shown great resilience and teamwork so far in the roster and is continuing to improve and get stronger each week. The games are starting to get chillier as we get closer to winter but that hasn’t stopped our Blue team from playing and giving 100% every second of the match. Our Presentation values of respect, responsibility, relationships and resilience are on display in every match and we couldn’t be more proud of our half field SMC Blue hockey team!

Ready to race!

A group of SMC Cross Country runners gathered at the Domain on Sunday morning to practice for the upcoming SATIS Cross Country and make sure they were familiar with the ups and downs of the course.

Afterward, the students replenished their energy levels and made sure to hydrate with some yummy and healthy snacks. A big thank you to the staff who attended and we wish our runners all the best on Wednesday when they compete in the Carnival.

1st grade Tennis team aces State Championship!

St Mary’s College has made history, claiming the SATIS Girls’ Tennis title with a nail-biting win over Marist Regional College at the state final in Burnie recently. The competition was hotly contested with a number of very close matches played out between the competitors.

Representing SMC, Alicia (Year 11), Maria (Year 10), Matilda (Year 9) and Imogen (Year 8 ) put up a fantastic team effort, showcasing their versatility, determination and some high-quality tennis.

This remarkable win marks the culmination of an extraordinary journey for this group of students who have shown unwavering commitment to the sport and each other. Every step on the court reflected not only individual skill and talent but also cooperation and encouragement of one another.

It’s also the first time in the trophy’s history (dating back to 1958) that St Mary’s has won this title, making the four-hour drive up and back all the more worth it!

Congratulations to the team for this outstanding achievement - we are very proud of you, and special thanks to the coaches, parents, carers and supporters. Bring on 2025!
