Keeping warm in winter

The College uniform is designed to allow students flexibility of choice in terms of what they wear in varying weather conditions. Students may wear either the full formal winter or full formal summer uniform throughout the year in line with the school uniform guidelines on the College website here.

With the cooler temperatures now upon us, students can keep warm by wearing an undershirt/thermal (which is not to be visible) under the blouse or polo top.

Students can also wear a cardigan and the jumper under the blazer.

The soft-shell jacket is a compulsory part of the Kinder–Year 2 uniform. All other year levels may wear the jacket over their sports or formal uniform if weather requires additional wind/rain protection.

Senior Drama Production

Our Year 11/12 Drama 3 and Theatre Performance 3 classes have been diligently rehearsing for a production of Louis Nowra’s Cosi, set to captivate audiences in June. This heartwarming Australian comedy, inspired by Nowra’s own life experiences, is set in a psychiatric facility in Sydney in 1971. Amidst the backdrop of Australia's protests against the Vietnam War, the play delves into themes of friendship, community, and the beauty found in our differences.  Inside the hospital, a group of patients are fervently preparing for a performance of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, creating a poignant contrast with the turmoil outside. The endearing characters in Cosi serve as a powerful reminder of the uplifting and transformative power of art on our hearts and spirits.

Join us for this delightful and thought-provoking performance at the Moonah Arts Centre on Friday 7 and Saturday 8 June, with shows starting at 7.00pm each night. Please note, the play contains strong language and adult themes, and is recommended for audiences aged 13 and above.

Save the date!

We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to our Alumni Morning Tea on Thursday 4 July at 11.00am.

Join us at the College for a morning filled with cherished memories, laughter and the joy of reconnecting with old friends.

The event will be hosted by our Year 3 students and will feature complimentary food and a small musical performance.

Please share this invitation with former students you know and encourage them to come along.

Junior School Chess Club

It has been wonderful to see so many of our Junior School students enjoying their chess lessons on a Friday and it was very exciting to see a few members try their hand at the All Girls’ Fun Day and Tournament run by Black Square Chess recently.

A few reminders about Chess Club:

  • Please collect students at 4.00pm either in the line up area or from the Brisbane Street gate.
  • If you have a different arrangement for your child after chess club (e.g., they need to be taken to After School Care or will be walking home) please inform Ali Canning, Acting Director of the Junior School, of this in writing via email to acanning@smc.tas.edu.au
  • If your child is unable to attend a lesson, please also inform Ali Canning via email so that we are not searching for them after school.
