Assessments and Feedback

As we approach the end of term, you may notice an increase in conversations about assessments across various year levels. While assessments are often associated with tests and results, it is important to remember that they represent something far more meaningful in your son’s learning journey.

At their core, assessments are about understanding progress. It allows teachers to understand what each boy knows, what he is learning, and how he can continue to grow. They provide valuable insights that allow teachers to tailor instruction, celebrate individual development, and offer feedback that helps each student move forward with confidence.

A key focus for us at this time of term is the concept of personal best. We encourage every boy to focus less on comparison with others and more on striving to improve his own performance. Achieving a personal best is about effort, persistence, and a willingness to learn from both successes and challenges. When boys aim to give their very best, they build resilience, self-belief, and a stronger connection to their learning.

Equally important is the role of feedback. Learning is most powerful when students actively seek and respond to guidance. We encourage boys to ask questions, reflect on feedback from their teachers, and use it to refine their understanding. Developing this habit not only strengthens academic outcomes but also nurtures independence and a growth mindset. Clear, achievable goals provide direction and help students stay motivated, particularly during busy assessment periods.

As boys (and parents) prepare for the final push to the end of term, we remain committed to supporting their wellbeing. Managing stress and maintaining healthy routines are essential during this time. We encourage good sleep, balanced nutrition, and regular physical activity. Opportunities for mindfulness and reflection are also important, as is ensuring boys feel comfortable reaching out for help when needed.

As always, our partnership with families is invaluable. Conversations at home that celebrate effort, perseverance, and personal improvement can make a significant difference. By reinforcing these messages together, we continue to build confident learners who are willing to take on challenges and strive for their personal best.

Wishing you a safe and relaxing long weekend.

God Bless,

Year 4 students enjoyed a hands-on Health and Technologies lesson, creating some delicious sandwiches based on their own research and recipes. The boys explored healthy choices, planning, and safe food preparation while working collaboratively.

TOBA Sportsmen's Lunch

Gallery Image

The annual Sportsmen’s Lunch is the major fundraising event on the TOBA calendar.  Valuable funds raised at the event go directly towards the TOBA Bursary Program.  These bursaries provide life‑changing opportunities for boys who, due to financial hardship, would not otherwise be able to benefit from a Trinity College education.  Your support directly contributes to making that possible.

It’s set to be a standout afternoon, featuring one of the fastest bowlers in cricket history, former Australian Test star Jeff Thomson, as Guest Speaker, with respected Sports Reporter and Commentator Mark Readings ('87) as MC.  We’re also excited to be inducting the next four Old Boys into the TOBA Sporting Hall of Fame.
