STAGE 2 Class News
What a fantastic start Stage 2 has made to Term 3! Creativity has been at the forefront of our learning as we completed our poetry unit. Each student worked diligently to write their own poem and then used their skills and imagination to create a visual collage. It was fantastic to see each student's creativity unleashed. Each student then presented their poem in a performance to their classes, considering sound effects, voice pace, intonation, and the use of props. From these performances, each class selected four students to present their poems at the school assembly. Well done to all students for demonstrating such confidence and talent in their presentations. We have a few actors in the making!
We have started our unit on diversity and our book study of ‘My Place’ by Nadia Wheatley. Through their understanding, each student has begun to recreate their own version of My Place in the form of a visual map. Students have had to consider what they see as significant landmarks or structures. We will be using these plans to assist us in developing a 3D map later in the term, so watch this space.
In Mathematics, we have studied multiplication, division and position. Students have been using their knowledge of position, compass directions and the grid system to create a walking path around the school. We have also been using our multiplicative knowledge to understand division. The children played games to practise this skill (please see the photographs underneath). We were impressed with how the children played the games, encouraging others and attempting new concepts with a positive attitude.
A large number of our students have joined the school choir this semester. They have been learning a range of new songs in preparation for New England Sings being held in term four. Last week they had an opportunity to join with some of the other local school choirs to practise the first four songs that they have been learning. It was great to see so many Stage 2 students who wanted to be a part of this amazing production.
