In the classroom

Foundation/1

This fortnight our class have been busy practicing their Italian songs with Mrs Gemmill. They are all very excited about sharing these songs with their families later in the term. During Literacy, the Foundations have been learning how to sound out and blend 4 letter words. Followed by a discussions around adding an 's' to the end of words to make more than one.

During Numeracy,  the Grade 1's has been introduced to clocks and measuring time. They were all blown away that every 4 years there is an extra day in the year. They learnt where the hands sit on the clock and how the numbers on the clock represent 5 minutes.

Year 1/2

We have finished up our Numeracy unit on fractions, looking at making fractions of groups and objects. Students have started learning about comparing mass and capacity, using different methods of comparison such as using balance scales and hefting(lifting two objects in our hands and comparing their mass).

We have one more week of borrowing from the library, please have a good look around at home for any library books that might have been overlooked.

Year 3/4

The 3 / 4 Class have been enjoying the classic tale of Charlotte's Web during our Literature focus this semester.

The students have become invested in the characters, studying the way that the story has been woven, expanding their vocabulary and knowledge of life in the 1950's.

It has been inspiring to see them working so keenly on their own narrative stories, and we look forward to publishing them over the coming weeks.  Some of their titles include;

Survivors, The Money, Moody and Snowy Save the World, Free Willy, Carl and Duke, The Missing Kitten, Aliy and Jay, Cat Burglar at Pup School, Lola and Poppy, Pipple and the Kittens, My Story, Ava and the Witch, Blue Lock, The Forest Monster, The Sister and the Cute Puppy, and Terry and Larry.

Year 6

In Literacy, students completed their information reports on Poland. Students designed eye-catching front covers, carefully incorporating the key features of an information text to showcase all the fascinating facts they discovered. For the last 4 weeks of Term, students will be reading the next book of the series Then by Morris Gleitzman, and they couldn’t be more excited!

In Numeracy, students have been building their confidence and skills with decimals, fractions, and percentages. They’ve been working out how to find decimals and percentages of a given amount. As we continue this unit, students will apply these skills to real-world situations which will help to improve their problem-solving abilities!
