We’re officially halfway through the term and what a pace we’re setting! The last couple of weeks have been extremely busy and rewarding. A big thank you to everyone who helped make Education Week such a success especially our Student Leaders. If you didn’t catch everything happening around the school, we had: Glasses for Kids, Teeth on Wheels, the Book Fair, Prep Breakfast, and Walk and Ride Safely to School Day. The energy across the school was fantastic and the kids loved it.

The momentum kept going this week. We welcomed the Department of Education to observe and celebrate our work implementing the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model in all classrooms across the school A special shout-out to our Year 4 and Year 6 teachers who opened their classrooms and showcased their practice—professional, reflective, and student-centred. We love putting EVPS forward as an exemplar of great teaching. In addition to the Department visiting, yesterday Jessica Duncan and I represented EVPS on a panel at the State Principals Conference, sharing our journey implementing Phonics Plus sharing back insights and highlighting the terrific work our staff and students are doing every day to lift student learning.

Tuesday was National Sorry Day, and we’re now partway through National Reconciliation Week (May 27–June 3). This year’s theme, ‘All In’ invites us to learn, reflect, and take meaningful steps toward fairness and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Around school, some classes tuned in to a live online reading with Kirli Saunders, a proud Gunai woman and award-winning author. Students loved hearing stories that centre Country, culture, and care for each other—lots of thoughtful questions and connections. Throughout the week, classes have been exploring learning activities: sharing picture books by First Nations authors, yarning about respect and inclusion, and reflecting on what reconciliation looks like in our daily actions. Small steps add up, and it’s been wonderful to see students leading with curiosity and kindness.

Next week we will acknowledge the end to this important week with a splash of yellow for Wear it Yellow Day on Wednesday 3rd June

Staffing Update

Epping Views has been getting smaller over the last few years, as new schools like Wollert and Wirrigirri have opened up. We have gone from over 1000 students to 570 in just a few years.

As we grow smaller, we are likely to see some EVPS staff gaining opportunities  in new schools. Whilst it is very sad to see them go, we know they will go onto their new schools and share all of the great knowledge and skills that they have developed here.

Farewells are never easy and it is always with mixed emotions that we share news of staff members who are moving on.

Marina who is in her 9th year at EVPS is moving on to a finance position in a new school. We will miss her knowledge and support on the front desk and managing finances - we will also miss her sense of humour. Marina begins at her new school in Week 8 and I know you will join me in thanking her for her service to Epping Views.

Just a reminder that next Friday is a Curriculum Day, so there will be no students at school.

The following Monday is the King’s birthday therefore it will be an extra long weekend for families.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is All In, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

All In makes clear that reconciliation is not a spectator sport and that all of us must step away from the sidelines and take action to make change.

The theme also reminds us that reconciliation and advancing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ rights isn’t a passive activity, and it is not solely the responsibility of First Nations people, who have carried the weight of championing, explaining and acting for far too long.

Reconciliation will not happen by itself, and it will not happen without all of us.
