EEPS Reconciliation Action Party (RAP)

Reconciliation Week begins on Wednesday 27 May and continues until Wednesday 3 June. Throughout the coming weeks, year levels will participate in activities focused on learning about and reflecting on reconciliation, culture, community, truth-telling, and connection. On Monday 1 June, our school choir will perform the chosen song for the “Voices for Reconciliation” initiative at our assembly. Following the assembly, we will begin a small collaborative leaf art project recognising our school’s ongoing journey towards reconciliation. A small station will be set up for families to collect a gum leaf to decorate at home throughout the week if they would like to participate. This art project will continue to grow within the school, with students collecting their own gum leaf from Country and decorating them in class.

A big shout out to the Year 6 Student Cultural Leaders and members of our student led First Nations Action Group. We had a fantastic first lunchtime session together, sharing ideas, wonderings, and discussing ways we can be thoughtful allies and advocates within our school and local community. The group will continue meeting on Thursday lunchtimes throughout the year. Students raised a range of thoughtful ideas and focuses, including exploring allyship, fundraising opportunities, supporting important events such as Reconciliation Week and NAIDOC Week, creating and sourcing resources for classrooms and outdoor spaces. There were some fantastic discussions during our first session and we are already looking forward to the next meeting.

Please reach out to leadership, Amy Simula (Japanese Teacher, Wednesday-Friday) or Sophie James (Year 4 Teacher) if you have any questions, wonderings, or ideas.”
