Chev Need to Knows

14 February 2025

Dear Parents and Carers

Earlier today, Sandy Abbey, Assistant Principal – Faith, Formation and Mission, shared with staff the following information:

Yesterday, the Australian Catholic Bishops released “Running to God: A Collection of Prayers for Sport.” It follows their 2024 statement on the opportunity that sport presents for an encounter with Jesus. The new book features prayers written for and by athletes, officials, coaches, parents and spectators; as well as short testimonies of faith from Australian athletes including Olympians, NRL players and more.

You can access the book here: https://nce.catholic.org.au/culture/sports

One such prayer appears below.

PRAYER OF SOLIDARITY

Composed by Chloe Esposito (Olympic gold medalist (2016) in the modern pentathlon)

Dear God,

You created all people in your image and likeness,

including all those with whom and against whom I play.

May I always remember that those I compete against

are my brothers and sisters in Christ.

Please help me to treat my opponents with respect, love and compassion,

even when it becomes difficult to do so.

May my opponents use the skills and talents

that you have blessed them with to the best of their abilities.

And when our match is over,

help us to see in one another the face of Jesus, your Son,

in whose name we make this prayer.

Amen.

As we reflect on the significance of sport and other extracurricular activities in the lives of our students, we are reminded of the values they instil - teamwork, perseverance, and respect.

We wish all our students the best of luck as they represent the College both at home and away tomorrow, next week and for the remainder of the year. May they carry with them the spirit of camaraderie and the teachings of faith, and may their experiences be enriching and fulfilling.

Student Address Collection - 2025

The Australian Government Department of Education requests non-government schools to provide address details for the purpose of informing Australian Government school education policy and helping to ensure funding for non-government schools is based on need.

  • Whether the student is a primary or secondary student (education level)
