There’s encouraging news for Victorian families, as we head into a new school year. The Victorian Government has recently announced free public transport for all children and young people under 18, helping to ease everyday travel costs and making getting to school more affordable than ever.

As families prepare for the year ahead, many are also facing the rising costs of uniforms, books, digital devices, and other learning essentials. This can place added pressure on households, and schools are often a trusted first point of connection in helping families feel supported, prepared, and ready for learning.

This is where the Saver Plus Back to School Campaign can make a meaningful difference.

Saver Plus is a well-established program funded by Department of Social Services that helps eligible families build savings specifically for education expenses.

Families can save up to $500, which is matched by dollars for dollars, giving them up to $1,000 to spend on approved school-related costs such as uniforms, books, laptops, excursions, and other learning essentials. Alongside the financial benefit, families also gain practical saving skills that continue to support them well beyond the school year.

With reduced transport costs and support through Saver Plus, families are better positioned to plan ahead and ensure students have what they need to engage confidently at school. Saver Plus program aligns strongly with school priorities around wellbeing, inclusion, and reducing financial barriers to participation.

We would greatly value your support in sharing this opportunity with families through school newsletters, notice boards, or other community communication channels.

We are happy to provide ready-to-use flyers, digital resources, and can also arrange information sessions to support engagement within your school community.

We are pleased to share that on Friday 5 February 2026, Saver Plus was highlighted on channel 9 where Effie Zahos spoke about how Saver plus support families building financial confidence and saving for education related expenses. Effie regularly answers viewer questions through her “Ask Effie” segment, where she shares practical tips to help Australians save money and build financial confidence. It was great to see Saver Plus highlighted as part of this conversation in follow up to her past segment.
