2025 House Captains
House Points:
Great to see so many students making positive choices and being awarded house points. Continue to be kind to yourself and others and earn your house points.
Foundation:
Over the past three weeks, the Foundation Students have focused on learning one of the methods to throw an object overarm. As a cohort we used the strongman/girl or warrior pose technique.
As a starting point, we watched the technique via a YouTube clip before practising it individually and with a partner.
To scaffold the students learning, we applied the overarm throw technique to some mini games such as Level Up, Protect the Base and Snowball. Following this we focused on their throwing accuracy during stationed activities which involved varying targets.
It was great to watch the students' confidence grow during each lesson. One of the most pleasing aspects of their growth was their throwing accuracy.
Year One/Two
Over the past three weeks, the Year One/Two students have focused on refining and practising their Fundamental Movement/motor skills (FMS).
Year One: Began a unit which focused on developing and refining their overarm throw technique (strongman/girl or warrior pose).
As a starting point, we watched the technique via a YouTube clip to refresh their memories before practising it individually and with a partner.

It was great to watch the student's confidence grow during each lesson. One of the most pleasing aspects of their growth was their throwing accuracy. This was practised through stationed activities with varying targets to throw at.
Year Two: Commenced a unit which involved the field events in athletics. The purpose of this unit was to expose them to some of the core athletics events and prepare them for the 2026 athletics trials event. The events which the students participated in were long jump and high jump. Each other these events required the students to utilise their fundamental and gross motor skills such as running, jumping and throwing.
Following on from these lessons, the students revisited their overarm throw technique. They applied this to different activities such as Snow Ball, and target practise.
Year Three/Four
Over the past three weeks, the Year Three/Four students have participated in a unit involving the athletics field events such as high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus.
The first lesson saw the students practise both the scissor kick and Fosbury Flop for high jump. The level of participation and execution of the techniques was great to watch.
The second lesson provided the students with an opportunity to practise both long and triple jump. Triple jump was an option for the students as results were taking to help decide which students would represent our school at the district athletics event.
The last lesson saw the students practise both shot put and discus. Each event required a different throwing technique as the objects varied in shape and weight.
Year Five/Six

House Athletics Trial
On Wednesday the 23rd April the Year 3-6 students ventured to Knox Athletics Track as a part of our School Athletics Trials Carnival. It was wonderful to see the students all dressed in their house colours and the team spirit on display.
We couldn't have asked for a better day weather wise which made the day even more amazing.
It was amazing to watch the students participate in their respective events and give their best.
At the conclusion of the day, Wattle house was awarded the 2025 Athletics Champions.
The District stage is due to be held in Term Three. Students who placed in the top two of their respective events will progress to the next stage.
A massive shout out to the parent volunteers who offered their time. We cannot have these events without quality help.
Whole School Cross-Country
On Friday 9th May we held our whole school cross country event. It was wonderful to see so many students dressed in their house colours and the team spirit on display. We could not have asked for a better day in terms of the whether which made it an even better spectacle.
Each student should be super proud of their efforts on the day. Whether you ran, jogged or walked the course, it was terrific to see your participation in the event.
To our parent volunteers, thank you so much. These events are not possible without your assistance. We truly do have a wonderful community at USPS.
