Year One

Communicating with the Year One Team
We are very happy to be partnering with you in 2025, and welcome your input:
When communicating with the Year One team, please reach out via the below email addresses. Your child's class teacher is your first point of contact when requiring a discussion. You will usually see us outside the classrooms at the end of the day. This is the preferred time to catch us for a quick chat as we are focused on greeting the students before school.
Please also note that we have scheduled meetings at 3.45pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Year One Teachers:
Ms Zoe Bates (Class 1A) Zoe.Bates@education.vic.gov.au
Mrs. Julie Hall (Class 1B) Julie.Hall@education.vic.gov.au
Mrs Tanya Howell (Class 1C) Tanya.Howell@education.vic.gov.au
Welcome to Term Two!
The Year One students have had an excellent start to the term and have settled back in with ease. We have been working hard to use our whole body listening skills and are listening carefully to instructions during learning time. Over the last four weeks, we have been creating recounts during writing. In mathematics we have been working on patterns, data collection and presentation and measuring length. In Berry Street the students have been learning strategies to calm themselves when they are anxious, angry or frustrated.
Inquiry - Term Two 2025
'Then and Now'
Students are exploring the history of our local community and how it has changed over time. We are learning about changes from Indigenous peoples to Colonial years, and then now. We are covering changes in fashion, toys, transport, food, technology and family life. Students are exploring the effect of changing technology on peoples' lives. We will investigate how the lives of our first nations peoples have changed.
Students will look at the similarities and differences between the past and the present.
During this unit, students will study the changes in toys and games over time.
Cross Country
On Friday the 9th of May all of our students participated in Cross Country here at school. We had a lot of fun running around the course within our school. Thank you to Mr Scicluna and all the parent helpers for making this such a successful event.
Mother's Day Afternoon
On Friday the 9th of May we held our annual Mother's Day Afternoon. It was amazing to see so many Mums and family members here to help us celebrate and spoil our fantastic mums. The Year One activities were black and white portraits, and decorating fun buns. We were all very busy and had a wonderful time. We hope all of our mums had a fantastic Mother's Day.
Take Home Readers
All Year One students have been given their 'Home Reading Diary' for Term Two. Each week, your child is provided with one hard copy reader to read for the week. We ask that the book is read 3-4 times per week and is logged into your child’s reading diary.
Your child’s reading diary and book needs to be brought back to school every Monday morning to be checked and swapped over by your child’s classroom teacher. We kindly ask that all books are taken care of and returned in good condition every Monday.
Term Three Tricky Words
Please don't forget to practise 'tricky words'. These words have irregular spelling patterns and are often difficult for children to sound out, therefore need to be learnt through regular practise and repetition.
