It is what it is...
"Endure the hard and cherish the good, as neither is permanent"
Ben Crowe, Where the Light Gets In
As you stand on the threshold of finishing Year 12, there’s a phrase you’ve probably heard thousands of times: "It is what it is."
This phrase is easy to dismiss as a throwaway line, but when you look closer, it’s actually one of the most powerful mindset muscles you can build and one that will serve you well beyond the school gates.
When you say "it is what it is", you are actively practicing acceptance. Acceptance isn't about giving up, ignoring your feelings, or pretending that disappointment, stress, or frustration don't sting. It’s simply learning to meet life where it's at, to stop fighting a reality that has already happened.
When we refuse to accept what’s already behind us, we carry unnecessary weight into what’s ahead. Acceptance allows you to put that weight down and ask two simple questions:
- Can I do anything about this? If so, take action.
- If not, can I find a way to accept it?
And if you want to take that mindset one step further, remember this: This too shall pass.
When you’re in the thick of it, or uncertainty about what comes next, it’s a comforting reminder that the hard times aren't permanent. The difficulty will lift, and you will get through it.
But the flip side is just as important. The good times will pass too. Cherish these final moments, enjoy them for what they are, and celebrate how far you’ve come.
Endure the hard, and cherish the good.
As the Pathways Team, it has been a privilege to walk alongside you, guide your choices, and help you map out your next steps. No matter where your path leads after Year 12, whether it goes according to plan or takes an unexpected detour, you have the tools and the resilience to navigate whatever comes your way.
We are so proud of you all. We are cheering you on all the way, hold on to the good times, and step confidently into your next chapter!
Bless you,
Your Pathways Team
