Celebrating Education Week Through STEM
To celebrate Education Week, students across the school participated in exciting hands-on STEM incursions exploring different forms of energy through interactive experiments and demonstrations. It was wonderful to see students showing curiosity, teamwork and enthusiasm as they investigated scientific concepts in fun and engaging ways.
Prep–Year 2 – Sound Sensation
Prep to Year 2 students explored the science of sound and hearing through a range of hands-on investigations. They discovered how sound travels through different materials, compared human hearing with animal hearing, and observed sound vibrations using special equipment. Students also created their own sci-fi “laser beam” cup and explored how sound energy can transfer into other forms of energy through fun activities involving tuning forks and ping pong balls.
Year 3/4 – Heat and Energy
Year 3/4 students investigated different forms of energy and how energy can be transformed. They built electrical circuits, explored how heat affects states of matter, and used thermometers to compare hot and cold water. Students also observed demonstrations of conduction, convection and radiation, including a dramatic tea bag rocket and exciting chemical reactions that showed both endothermic and exothermic changes.
Year 5/6 – Light Reflection
Year 5/6 students explored the fascinating world of light through experiments with mirrors, lenses, prisms and optical instruments. They investigated reflection, refraction and colour mixing, built electrical circuits, and even created a whole-class human circuit to light LEDs. Students also observed how light energy can transform into other forms of energy and were amazed by demonstrations of chemiluminescence.
CPS Sport Update
Division Cross Country Success
Congratulations to our four Division Cross Country representatives - Hudson Slaney, Jax Slaney, Barnabas Zoltan and Leo Foenander for representing our school so proudly at the recent event. All four students demonstrated outstanding effort and determination throughout the day.
A special congratulations to Hudson and Leo, who have qualified for the next stage of competition, the Southern Metro Region Cross Country Championships. This event will be held on Tuesday 17 June at Hastings Foreshore.
We wish Hudson and Leo the very best of luck as they continue their cross-country journey and represent our school at the regional level.
Prep PE Term 2 Update
Our Prep students began the term developing their soccer skills, focusing on kick passing, dribbling, toe taps, ball control, and small-sided gameplay. They showed great enthusiasm and improvement as they learned the fundamentals of the game.
More recently, students have transitioned into AFL, where they are learning the key skills of handballing and punt kicking. When handballing, they are using the cue words "pancake, ice cream, sprinkles, step, scoop" to help them remember the correct technique when passing to a partner. They are also working hard on their punt kick using the simple cues "step, drop, kick" and are doing a fantastic job applying these skills during activities and games.
Throughout lessons, students have been participating in a variety of fun and engaging games that keep them active while providing opportunities to practise and develop their AFL skills. It has been wonderful to see their confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment continue to grow each week.
