Week 7 Greeting

Winter has now officially arrived in Melbourne and, true to expectations, it has certainly become much colder over the course of this week. We have a number of students and staff currently feeling under the weather, and this coming long weekend may provide a wonderful opportunity for everyone to enjoy some well-deserved rest and quality time with family and friends.

While there are still a few weeks to go until the term break, we have plenty of exciting events ahead. Our Year 5/6 students are eagerly preparing for camp, we look forward to welcoming visitors for our Grandparents and Special Friends Day, and several year levels still have excursions planned. I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable long weekend and look forward to seeing our students back at school on Tuesday.

メルボルンにもいよいよ冬が到来し、予想どおり今週はぐっと冷え込む日が続きました。現在、体調を崩している児童や職員も見られますので、この週末の連休に、ご家族やご友人とゆっくり過ごしながら心身を休める機会となればと思います。

学期末の休暇まであと数週間ありますが、その前にも楽しみな行事がたくさん予定されています。5・6年生はキャンプに向けて準備を進めており、Grandparents and Special Friends Dayでは多くの来校者をお迎えすることを楽しみにしています。また、遠足に行く学年もあります。

皆様、安全で楽しい連休をお過ごしください。火曜日に元気な児童たちを学校で迎えられることを楽しみにしています。

Grandparents and Special Friends Day

Our annual Grandparents and Special Friends Day will take place on Thursday 11 June. Unlike previous years, this year's event will be held later in the day. We are excited to welcome our special visitors and provide them with an opportunity to experience some of the learning and activities that take place at our school.

If your child has invited a grandparent or special friend, please remind them that all visitors will be required to sign in upon arrival. Sign-in tables will be located near the Common Room. We appreciate the cooperation of all visitors, as this important process helps us maintain a safe and secure environment for our students and staff.

毎年恒例のGrandparents and Special Friends Dayを6月11日（木）に開催します。今年は例年と異なり、午後の時間帯に実施する予定です。ご来校いただく皆様には、本校で行われている学習活動の様子を見ていただく貴重な機会となります。

お子様が祖父母やスペシャルフレンドをご招待している場合は、ご来校の際に特設のサインインデスクでサインインをしていただく必要があることをお伝えください。デスクはコモンルーム付近に設置いたします。これは児童の安全を確保するための重要な手続きですので、皆様のご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

School Uniform

In my previous newsletter article, I reminded families that students are expected to wear their school uniform in accordance with our Student Dress Code Policy. If you have not had an opportunity to review the uniform requirements recently, the upcoming long weekend may be a good time to check the list of approved uniform items outlined in Appendix A.

I would like to draw particular attention to the guidelines regarding leggings. While plain navy blue leggings may be worn underneath other approved uniform items for additional warmth, they are not to be worn on their own as a substitute for trousers, pants, shorts, skorts, or dresses. We appreciate the support of our families in ensuring that students attend school dressed in line with the Student Dress Code Policy.

前回のニュースレターでもお伝えしましたが、児童は本校のStudent Dress Code Policyに沿って制服を着用することが求められています。まだご確認いただいていないご家庭は、この連休中にStudent Dress Code Policy Appendix Aに記載されている制服の着用可能なアイテム一覧をご確認ください。

特にレギンスに関する規定について改めてお知らせいたします。無地のネイビーブルーのレギンスは、他の指定制服の下に着用することができますが、ズボン、ショートパンツ、スコート、またはワンピースの代わりとして単独で着用することはできません。引き続き、制服の規則へのご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

Student Bathrooms

This is a reminder that the student bathrooms located on the ground floor of the main building and the Prep building are designated for student use only. This includes the inclusive bathroom located next to the girls' bathroom in the main building.

To ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students, adults are not permitted to enter any student bathroom facilities at any time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone at our school.

本校舎1階およびプレップ棟にある児童用トイレは、児童専用の施設であることを改めてお知らせいたします。これには、本校舎の女子トイレ横にあるインクルーシブトイレも含まれます。

児童の安全と安心を確保するため、保護者を含む大人の方は児童用トイレに立ち入ることができません。安全な学校環境を維持するため、皆様のご理解とご協力をお願いいたします。

Measurement Lesson in Year 1/2

This week, while walking past one of our sandpits, I had the opportunity to observe a wonderful Year 1/2 mathematics lesson in action. Students were engaged in hands-on activities designed to develop their understanding of measurement and capacity.

After being explicitly taught what capacity is and how to correctly use measuring equipment, students moved on to applying their learning in practical situations. They used their prior knowledge to make estimations and then tested their predictions using a range of measuring tools. It was fantastic to see students working collaboratively, discussing their thinking, and actively exploring the skills they had learned in the classroom. Experiences such as these demonstrate the value of hands-on learning and help students make meaningful connections between classroom concepts and real-world applications.

今週、砂場の横を通りかかった際に、1・2年生の算数の授業を見学する機会がありました。児童たちは「かさ（容量）」について学ぶための実践的な活動に取り組んでいました。

まず、容量とは何か、また計量器具をどのように正しく使うのかについて明確な指導を受けた後、実際の活動へと移りました。児童たちはこれまでの学習を活かして予想を立て、その後計量器具を使って予想を確かめていました。互いに協力しながら考えを共有し、教室で学んだスキルを積極的に活用している姿がとても印象的でした。
