Narrabri High School Visit
Our Year 6 students recently welcomed visitors from Narrabri High School including Deputy Principal Mr Chase Magner, Community Liaison Officer Mr David Pierce and the Year 7 Advisor for 2027 Miss Rachel Waals.
It was wonderful to welcome back former St Francis Xavier’s students Josie Harvey, Maxine O’Connor and Lily Bogdanoff together with Estelle Eather. The students shared their experiences of high school life, speaking about the subjects they are studying as well as sharing a promotional video of High School activities.
The visit provided an engaging and informal opportunity for our Year 6 students to learn more about the Year 7 Transition Program, which they will participate in later this year.
Chess Competition
Year 6 students who have been participating in Chess Club with Mr Falkiner were given the opportunity to be selected to attend the 2026 NSW Primary Schools Chess Competition held at St Xavier’s Primary School, Gunnedah. Four students were selected as members of the St Francis Xavier’s School team.
The competition was conducted by the NSW Junior Chess League (a not-for-profit voluntary organisation) and welcomed schools from Gunnedah, Rowena, Curlewis, Werris Creek, Barraba and Coonabarabran, making a total of 20 teams.
Well done to our students, who had a fantastic day showcasing their chess knowledge and strategic thinking skills throughout a highly competitive series of matches.
Work Experience
St Francis Xavier's was delighted to welcome three Year 10 work experience students to our school. Former students Cadence Dowdell, Johanna Gordon and Zander Kneale each spent a week with us, assisting in classrooms and supporting staff and students across the school. It was wonderful to have them back as part of our community, and we appreciated their enthusiasm, commitment and willingness to help.
Wii Gaay - Learning Hub 1
What an incredible few days we had at our Wii Gaay Learning Hub in Bonville, NSW.
With 13 schools coming together for the week, 21 dedicated staff and 30 amazing students travelled across two travel days, creating new friendships and lifelong memories along the way.
Students participated in two full days of engaging learning, completing 12 hands-on workshops that celebrated culture, identity and leadership. A special highlight was our day On Country, where students explored local Aboriginal culture through a Bush Tucker Tour, learned about traditional Aboriginal weapons, and spent time connecting with the beautiful coastal environment.
We were also fortunate to visit the beach, where students gathered together for a meaningful liturgy, taking time to reflect, connect and appreciate the beauty of Country.
Learning Hub 1 was a wonderful opportunity for students to strengthen their cultural knowledge, build new connections and create memories that will stay with them long after the journey home.
Crime Prevention
To mark Crime Prevention Week, our primary students participated in an informative session presented by Senior Constable Ben Stride, accompanied by Ms Elodie Labonte from Narrabri Shire Council.
Senior Constable Stride spoke with students in Years 4 to 6 about bullying, including what constitutes bullying, the different forms it can take, and the impact it can have on individuals and the wider community.
We thank Senior Constable Stride and Ms Labonte for taking the time to share their knowledge and supporting our students in making safe choices.
Grandparents and Special Persons Day
We were delighted to welcome so many grandparents, family members and special friends to join us for morning tea on the oval last Thursday, followed by a wonderful assembly.
The celebration was hosted by Mrs Hatton, alongside our School Captains and Vice Captains. Our guests enjoyed performances from our school band ensembles, as well as entertaining items from our students!
Awards were also presented for the fortnight's Key Learning Area of Physical Education and the Term 2 Living Well, Learning Well Principal's Awards. Congratulations to all award recipients.
Lastly, we were also pleased to welcome Mrs Julie Roy, Secretary of the Narrabri Arts Eisteddfod, who presented the Noeline Wales Memorial Award for Music to Rosemary.
Thank you to everyone who came and celebrated Grandparents and Special Persons Day with our school community.
