Foundation & Year 2 News

A reminder to families that the Foundation & Year 2 Swimming Program starts on Monday 19th and runs each school day until Friday 30th October.

Students are to wear their school uniform to and from the venue. Students will need to bring their bathers and towel in a separate water proof bag. Please pack spare undies/socks to change into after swimming if your child is wearing their bathers under their uniform.

**Please Note**  It is each child’s responsibility to come prepared for swimming each day. To avoid disappointment, please encourage your child to be organised. Swim days are extremely busy for staff and a great deal of confusion and inconvenience is caused trying to contact parents for forgotten swimming bags. Consequently, there will be no phone calls made home to parents and therefore children without their swimming attire will not participate that day.

Year 4 News

Year 4 Poetry

Year 4 students have been exploring the exciting world of poetry! We unpacked Alfred Lord Tennyson’s famous poem The Eagle, exploring its structure and identifying the poetic devices used to bring the eagle to life.

Students then used The Eagle as inspiration to create their own poems about an animal. They followed the same structure of two stanzas with three lines each, with four beats per line, while challenging themselves to include a simile or personification to create vivid images and bring their poems to life.

To celebrate their hard work, students came together as a cohort to share some of their poems in the style of 'Slam Poetry'. With energy, expression, and confidence, students performed their original poems for an audience and enjoyed celebrating each other’s creativity. It was wonderful to see so many students embracing the opportunity to share their voices!

Auslan News

Auslan Excursion to Tradeblock Cafe

On 17th September, our students had a fantastic morning visiting the Tradeblock Cafe at the Victorian College of the Deaf! The students enjoyed the adventure of catching the train and tram into the city, before arriving at the cafe.

The highlight of the morning was putting their Auslan skills into practice in a real life setting. Students confidently signed their orders directly to a staff member at the cafe, using the signs they have been learning and practising in class.

It was wonderful to see the students communicating in Auslan, having a go, and enjoying such an authentic opportunity to use the language outside the classroom. The morning was a great success, and the students should be very proud of themselves!

PE/Sport News

Division Athletics 2026

Earlier in Term 3, we proudly announced that Newport Lakes were the winners of the Williamstown District Carnival for 2026. The shield has our school’s name engraved on it for the first time and is proudly on display near the front office.

Towards the end of last term, some members of our school athletics team competed in the Division Athletics Carnival at the Newport Park Athletics Track.

Once again, our students performed exceptionally well, and several have now qualified for the Western Metropolitan Regional Championships, which are taking place on Tuesday 20th October.

The students who have qualified are:

  • Lewis S, who finished 2nd in the 9/10 Boys 80m hurdles
  • Henry L, who finished 1st in the 12 Boys 80m hurdles
  • Ava W, who finished 1st in the 9/10 Girls 100m and 2nd in the 9/10 Girls high jump
  • Angus M, who finished first in both the 11 Boys 100m and 200m
  • Teddy N, who finished 1st in the 12 Boys long jump
  • Emilia S, who finished 2nd in the 12 Girls triple jump
  • Rafael B, Stanley N, Angus M, and Jude W, who finished 1st in the 11 Boys 4x100m relay.

Special mention also to Sam J, who finished 3rd in the 9/10 Boys 800m, and to members of our 12 Girls and 12 Boys 4x100m relay teams, who finished 2nd and narrowly missed out on qualifying for the next level of competition.

We’re proud of all of our students who qualified for and participated in the Division Athletics Carnival, and wish the students competing on Tuesday all the best.
