Year 3 Update
Congratulations to all Year 3 students for a positive start to this year!
Upcoming learning:
During the next fortnight, Year 3 students are undertaking learning in the following areas:
Literacy: In reading, in the next fortnight, we will be summarising using the prompts of 'who, what, when, why, where'. This is a great strategy to practise at home when students are doing their nightly reading.
In writing, in the next fortnight, we will be learning to create characters and settings for a narrative by using descriptive language, as well as practising to write body paragraphs and endings to a narrative.
Maths: In the next two weeks will be learning to use vertical subtraction to solve subtraction equations and solving worded subtraction problems. As well as introducing division problem solving (also known as sharing in the early years).
Inquiry: Our topic this term is 'How can I create a healthy me?'
Students will be investigating the connection between a healthy body and mind to contribute to healthy and active environments.
S.E.L.: We will be forming positive relationships, working in teams, dealing effectively with conflict by recognising student's emotions and values, as well as their strengths and challenges. We will continue to work closely with the new school values of, kindness, respect and resilience. We will use these values to understand The Matrix of Expected behaviours in and around the school. In particular discussing students' strong emotions, and their personal strengths to assist students with learning resilience.
News and reminders
Hats: Please remember hats are required throughout terms 1 (until April) and 4. Students without hats will be asked to sit/play under the shade sail on the courtyard steps.
Drink bottles: Please remember to bring a drink bottle to school every day, but more importantly throughout the summer terms. It saves disruption to your child's learning when this is accessible within the room.
Family fun night: Tuesday 19th March 3.30-5.15pm. We would love to see families come with their children, have a go at beating teachers with Jenga and many more games. Grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins are all very welcome to join us pon the synthetic oval and even bring along a picnic. Please remember that this is a parent supervised event.
School Photos: Wednesday 6th March. Orders are now open.
NAPLAN: Year 3 and 5 will be participating in NAPLAN in March. This will be throughout week 6. If you have any questions regarding this please see your child's teacher.
