Work Experience

Our Year 10 students are preparing themselves for their work experience placement for 2024.  This year, work experience will be taking place from December 2nd – December 6th.  Students have secured placements in a variety of fields including hospitality, retail, building and construction, health services etc.   Students have stepped out of their comfort zone and approached local businesses with professionalism and resilience to secure their placements.

Work Experience is part of the Year 10 Careers Program. Work experience can help students:

  • Develop skills for employability
  • Explore career options
  • Understand what employers expect
  • Increase self-understanding, maturity, independence, and self-confidence
  • Build a network and form relationships in a specific sector
  • Decide if a particular sector is a good fit

The Craigieburn Secondary College community has been very impressed by our Year 10 cohort who have engaged with the program, and we look forward to visiting you on your placements!

Industry Speakers

The Pathways Team invites a diverse range of guest speakers to connect with students and offer valuable insights into various career paths. These speakers are professionals from different industries, including business, healthcare, technology, the arts, and more, providing students with a broad spectrum of knowledge.

The purpose of inviting these experts is to expose students to real-world experiences and career opportunities that may not be readily available through textbooks or classroom discussions. By hearing directly from professionals, students can better understand the skills, qualifications, and challenges associated with specific careers.

In addition to offering industry-specific knowledge, guest speakers also help students develop important life skills. Many of the invited professionals focus on topics such as leadership, effective communication, networking, and personal development. These sessions offer practical advice that students can apply to both their academic and professional lives. Furthermore, guest speakers often share personal stories about their journeys to success, providing inspiration and motivation for students to pursue their own goals with determination and confidence.

This initiative not only helps students explore potential career options but also fosters a sense of community by creating networking opportunities. Students are encouraged to ask questions, engage in discussions and ultimately become empowered with the knowledge, skills, and resources to make informed decisions about their future careers.
