Appreciations

ANZAC Day Ceremony

Our ANZAC Day ceremony last Thursday was a respectful and moving experience for everyone involved. All our Grade 6 captains contributed, and the activities students had engaged in during class and library sessions clearly enriched their understanding, which was reflected throughout the event.  The captains delivered their readings with clarity, confidence, and an appropriate tone. However, the most striking moments came during the Last Post, the minute’s silence, and the Reveille, as the flags were raised. The solemn attention of all attendees during these parts demonstrated our school value of respect.  We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the ceremony, with special appreciation to Shannon for creating the ANZAC display and to Taleb for his thoughtful arrangement of three temporary flagpoles for the flag-raising.

News

Absences and Late Arrivals

It has now been a year since I first shared that the Department of Education has increased its focus on schools and families being accountable for student absences and late arrivals. The requirement remains that any student arriving late must be signed in at one of the Compass tablets in office reception by a parent or carer. Students who arrive unaccompanied will need to wait until a parent or carer is available to sign them in. To avoid this inconvenience, please support your child in arriving on time. If they are running late, ensure you accompany them to the office to complete the sign-in process.

Coming Up

Winter Interschool Sport Competition

Excitement is building among our senior students as the winter interschool sport season approaches. All Grade 6 students have been selected to join one of our T-ball, soccer, AFL, or netball squads. While not every student will play each week, all members of the cohort will have the opportunity to represent our school throughout the season. The competition begins tomorrow with an away game against Corpus Christi Primary School. Selected teams will depart at 11:30am and are expected to return around 1:30pm. This week, the AFL and soccer matches will be held at Hansen Reserve, while the T-ball and netball games will take place at school.  Due to time constraints, sports reports from each round will be shared at the following week's assembly.

Assembly Tomorrow

We will be scanning the skies in order to make an informed decision on whether we are able to run our assembly outdoors, or opt for the gallery space as our fall back option. We will appreciate the assembly presentation from 4LW, we will present last term’s grade 5 and 6 Victorian High Achievers Program participants with their achievement certificates, award the first Pupil of the Week Awards for the term, and provide timely announcements. Assembly is due to start at 2:40pm.

Mother’s and Special Person’s Stall

… will be held on Friday of next week. Please note the information in the Parents’ Association news in today’s newsletter and please respond to the Compass post encouraging families to make a $10 contribution by Wednesday of next week to ensure your child is able to participate in this traditional and highly popular event that only occurs due to the voluntary generosity of parents and carers. On that note PA will be holding a gift wrapping session in the staff room tomorrow (Friday) morning at the start of the school day.

2026 Prep Enrolment Information Sessions and School Tours

The remaining sessions are:

  • Tuesday, 13th May 2025 - 9:30am to 10:45am
  • Tuesday, 13th May 2025 - 6:30pm to 7:30pm
  • Friday, 30th May 2025 - 9:30am to 10:45am

To attend one of the above listed sessions, please register via the following link: https://compasstix.com/e/ih8jj2xmp4

We encourage parents and carers to attend one of these sessions, particularly if new to our school community. Our grade 6 captains, along with K-P Transition co-ordinator Karri and myself appreciate the opportunity of showcasing what FWPS has to offer. Enrolment forms will be available for all families residing within our school zone and enrolment applications will be offered for all families who reside outside our zone.

Warm regards,

Brendan
