NAPLAN
This week marked the beginning of the NAPLAN assessments for students in Gr3 and Gr5. It is one of the many assessments we use to help judge student progress and inform our teaching and learning program. We are aware that some students get anxious about this type of assessment, but please be assured we try and provide a stress-free learning environment and a positive approach to the tests. As the tests don’t accurately measure creativity, social skills, critical thinking and emotional development, we use other metrics to assess these areas.

Early Arrivals
Each morning our staff supervise the yard from 8.45am, any students arriving to school before this time are unsupervised. We ask for your support in making sure your child arrives at school from 8:45 am to ensure their safety. These times are in place to help us meet our duty of care for students and ensure that adequate supervision is provided throughout the school day. (This does not include Thursdays and Breakfast Club)
Harmony Week - Wear a Touch of Orange
Next week as a school we’re acknowledging Harmony Week, a time to recognise and celebrate the cultural diversity that makes Australia such a vibrant and welcoming place. Harmony Week encourages us to reflect on the message that everyone belongs, and provides a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about respect, inclusion and the many cultures that make up our community.
To mark the occasion, students are invited to wear a touch of orange on Friday 20 March. Orange is the official colour of Harmony Week and symbolises respect, diversity and a sense of belonging for everyone.
Students might choose to wear an orange accessory such as a ribbon, socks, hair tie or another small touch of orange with their school uniform.
National Ride2School Day – Friday 20 March 2026
National Ride2School Day on Friday 20 March 2026. Students are encouraged to ride, walk or scoot to school to promote healthy habits and build confidence. We encourage all families to support their children to travel to school in an active way on this special day.
Thursday mornings starting at 8.15am until 8.45am. Please ensure your child arrives during these times to avoid disappointment.
School Council
The School Council AGM will be held on Wednesday 18th March at 6pm. Following the AGM, the first meeting on the new School Council will be held.
Potential statewind 24-hour stop work for Tuesday 24th March
As parents and carers may be aware, staff at our school who are Australian Education Union (AEU) members have been negotiating, alongside teachers, education support staff, assistant principals, and principals from public schools around Victoria, with the state government and Department of Education for improvements to pay and employment conditions. Negotiations have been occurring over the last seven months, and the state government has not made any offer at all to this point in time. Currently, Victorian public schools are the lowest funded in Australia and there are significant staffing shortages across Victoria. Victorian public school teachers are also the lowest paid teachers in Australia, with many education support employees and school leaders paid less than their colleagues in other state and territories who do the same role.
AEU members are seeking pay increases and reductions to excessive workloads, with the aim of ensuring the retention of existing employees and the attraction of the next generation to enable the ongoing provision of a high-quality education to students. Because there has not been any offer, AEU members have voted to endorse industrial action, with the union calling a statewide 24-hour stop work for Tuesday 24th March, should the government not respond to key claims.
The union acknowledges that a decision to stop work is not one to be taken lightly and regrets the impact it has on students and their families.
