From the Principal

It has been another great week here at STM. It has been nice having a week of consistency after several extreme days to start the school year. Last Wednesday we celebrated Ash Wednesday which marks the start of Lent. I have provided some more information below about what Lent is and how it is observed by Catholics/Christians.
Just a note for families, I have a few personal days away from the school next week for various reasons (nothing serious), so as per normal procedure Ms Danielle George will assume the role of Principal on those days.
School Closures:
The school will be closed on Friday, 6th of March for a Professional Learning Day for staff. We will also be closed on Monday 9th of March for the Labour Day Public Holiday.
Last Day of Term 1 will be on Tuesday 31st of March for those families looking to get their Easter Holiday plans underway.
What is Lent:
Looking Through Their Eyes:
District Swimming:
Congratulations to the students who have progressed to the District Swimming Carnival. This event will take place tomorrow at Belgrave Pool. We wish the swimmers good luck as they represent our school.
Harmony Week:
This year Harmony Day will be celebrated on March 21st (this falls on a Saturday). We will celebrate this day during the week at school. Please see the video below for more information below.
Smart Watches:
Just a note that smart watches are allowed to be worn to school. However we strongly discourage students from using these watches to call home during the school day (unless previously arranged with school leadership). This has happened multiple times this year already. We would really appriciate families supporting the school by encouraging their children to seek help from a teacher rather than have a discussion over the phone with their child.
Confirmation - May 17th, 2026:
The date for the Sacrament of Confirmation this year will be the 17th of May. If you are interested in your child participating in this Sacrament (Yrs 5 and 6 only) please contact Marcia Janky (marcia@smbelgrave.catholic.edu.au). In order for students to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation they must have also completed their First Reconciliation and First Eucharist.
Bushfire Register Information:
Please find attached some FAQ responses from MACS around our change in Extreme Bushfire Day procedure. As per my SchoolStream, we now have a relocation plan in place for St Joseph's College for future closure days.
STM Emergency Numbers on Relocation Days:
STM Emergency #1: 0455 058 797
STM Emergency #2: 047 6501 485
NAPLAN 2026:
Assembly Award Winners:
Well done to the "Student of the Week" award winners from our most recent Assembly.
