“On the day everyone was so excited, we boarded the bus and went to Casey stadium. When we arrived, everyone was practicing and the schools arrived one by one. Our first match was really hyped, and all our teammates were encouraging each other. We won the first match and we all decided that our spots were perfect so for every single round we kept the same positions. Because of that little teamwork we all tried our best and kept being positive and we performed amazing. The last match was the most intense because everyone was gathering around the court and we used communication, teamwork, and positiveness and we won and made it to regionals!”

Daniella Rostami, Year 7 student.

Athlete Development Program

All 3 streams of the Athlete Development Program (ADP) have kicked off this Term, with students completing their fitness testing and beginning personalised training programs through the TeamBuildr app. It has been exciting to see the enthusiasm and commitment from all students, as they begin working towards their personal goals.

On Monday the 16th of March, students had the opportunity to hear from guest presenter and Australian women's long jump record holder, Brooke Buschkuehl, who visited Kambrya for the 'Be Fit Be Well' community program. Brooke shared her insights into her journey in becoming one of Australia’s best long jumpers, discussing the dedication and challenges involved in competing at the highest level. Paralympian, and previous Kambrya Student, Jack Howell was also in attendance, speaking about his experiences as a professional Triathlete, providing perspective of his training schedule and balancing elite sport with everyday life.

Students will gain insight of all aspects of the elite AFL and AFLW programs, including the physical demands of AFL/AFLW, the importance of recovery, sleep, nutrition, the mental aspects of the game, goalsetting and using the resources available to be the best athletes they can be.

Year 7 Mini Athletics Carnival

It was fantastic to see our Year 7 Mini Athletics Carnival go ahead, especially with the Whole School Athletics Day now postponed to June. The event was proudly organised and delivered by Mr Ellison’s DARRABI PE class, who did an outstanding job in planning and running the day.

The carnival aimed to build sub-school connectedness among our Year 7 students while providing more opportunities for participation in a range of activities. Students enthusiastically took part in popular track and field events such as high jump, 200m and 400m races, as well as a variety of minor games including capture the flag and frisbee.

Overall, the day was a great success, with strong student involvement, positive energy, and plenty of sub-school spirit on display.

VET Sport Aquatics and Recreation

On Wednesday the 18th of March, St Kilda Football Clubs’ Blind AFL and Wheelchair Football program ran a session with the Unit 3 & 4 VET Sport Aquatics and Recreation students. Students got to participate in Wheelchair Football, as well as Blind AFL, gaining an understanding of what it would be like to participate in different inclusive sports. This session taught the students about why inclusion for people with disabilities is crucial for their mental and physical health.
