A Hot Success: Recap of the VCE Parent Information Night

Cody Gunn I Assistant Campus Principal 10 -12 Campus

Parent Information Evening

On a sweltering day that seemed to have its own agenda, parents and carers eagerly gathered for a long-awaited event—the VCE Parent Information Night. This evening, which hadn't graced our calendars (in person) since the pre-COVID era, promised to be an illuminating experience despite the unexpected heatwave that swept through our community.

Originally planned to take place in the school theatre, Mother Nature had other plans, forcing a relocation to the newly minted airconditioned Community Sports Precinct. Despite the change in venue, the enthusiasm among the attendees remained undiminished, with over 140 people crowding into the space, leaving only standing room by the event's end.

Campus Principal, David Hall kicked off the evening with a deep dive into the dark arts of Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) ATAR score calculations. With an engaging blend of humour and expertise, he demystified the often perplexing world of ranking and scaling, leaving parents feeling more empowered to navigate the intricacies of their child's academic journey.

Assistant Principal for Teaching and Learning, Amanda Jacobs, took the stage next, emphasising the importance of collaboration between families and the school in achieving success. Through anecdotes and practical strategies, she described the pivotal role that parental involvement plays in supporting student learning and well-being.

Wrapping up the informative sessions, Assistant Campus Principal Cody Gunn delved into the nuts and bolts of attendance, redemption, and coursework requirements. With clarity and precision, he outlined the essential guidelines and procedures, ensuring that parents left with a comprehensive understanding of their responsibilities and opportunities within the VCE framework.

Super SAC Monday

As a response to student and parent feedback in 2022, last year we trialed a system that would bring the vast majority of Year 12 SACs back into the school day. The trial was reviewed and refined for 2024 and now has series of set SUPER-SAC MONDAYS, placed on the SAC calendar throughout the year to support the VCE's rigorous assessment schedule.

Monday the 18th was the first of these days for 2024.  The class of 2024, and their Year 11 Unit 3&4 companions, once again proved that our high expectations for this group is well placed as they came into the day calm, prepared and ready to give it their best.   One Super-Sac Monday down - four to go!
