SANDRINGHAM COLLEGE ALUMNI

The aim of the Sandringham College alumni is to:

  • highlight the varied areas of employment our students pursue
  • connect former students with the College
  • to assist with facilitating reunions
  • to offer tours of the College to see the changes that have occurred
  • and to develop the relationship between our past students with the current community.

We anticipate that many members of are alumni will be keen to:

  • inspire our current students to aim high in their career aspirations
  • be part of our Mentoring Program assisting our students  as mentors to students
  • be a Guest Speaker at College events
  • offer Work Experience placement to our students.

Of course others will just like to be connected to the Sandringham College community.

Perhaps you are a former student yourself so please consider becoming part of our alumni by contacting the Alumni Coordinator, Heather Fehring at heather.fehring@education.vic.gov.au If you know of a former student, please pass on this information to them.

This Edition's featured Alumni is Luke Rose who graduated in 2008.

When Luke Rose was in Year 10 on the Beaumaris Campus, he completed his Work Experience at a Government Agency and what it confirmed for him at the time was that he never wanted to work in an office, ironically 18 years later that is exactly where he is now employed.

Luke’s journey to his current role as a Senior Workplace Relations Lead working in law enforcement has had many twists and turns since his days of being passionate about Science at the Junior Campus. Inspired by one of his Science teachers, Danny Van Vliet, Luke saw his future as a Science educator and after finishing Year 12 in 2008 studying Biology, Chemistry, Maths Methods, French and English (having already completed Unit3/4 Psychology as a Year 11 student). Luke enrolled at Deakin University studying a Double Degree in Science and Education. It was after an unpleasant teaching round that he decided at this point in his life teaching wasn’t for him so he completed a Master of Communication with a focus on science journalism.

Interestingly his Year 11 and 12 English teachers had seen a hidden talent in Luke and nurtured his writing ability in his final high school years. Nearing completion of his Masters it became apparent that there was a distinct lack of job opportunities in this area and in his search for employment opportunities he was provided with information about the Victorian Public Service Graduate Scheme - successfully applying for a position which provided experiences in three key Government areas: Law Enforcement, Health and the Environment.

Luke enjoyed his time at Sandringham College he was a Peer Support Leader and was a member of the College Production Stage Crew. He particularly commented on, ‘the encouraging environment of the Senior Campus’ and loved being able to focus on the subjects he wanted to study. Luke’s message to current students is ‘don’t get pigeon holed ….. interests change .…. take advantage of the opportunities that come your way and be prepared to change your career pathway’.

Jaz Golding - Alumni 2023 - Top Designs

A huge congratulations to Jazmin Golding who has been selected to present her VCE Theatre Studies Set and Props Design examination material in the Top Designs Exhibition as part of the VCAA Season of Excellence.

Jaz is one of just five students across the state who has been selected for their exceptional work and she will have her work displayed at the Melbourne Museum from 22nd March for several months. We are so very proud of her efforts and encourage students and members of our community to view the exhibit at Melbourne Museum.

Sam Williamson

Breaking records and making waves, Australia's very own Sam Williamson, an alumni of Sandringham College, has etched his name in swimming history by claiming the gold medal in the fiercely contested 50m breaststroke event at the World Championships in Doha.

Sam Williamson claimed Australia's first gold medal of the world swimming championships in the 50m breaststroke. Williamson was the fastest qualifier heading into the final and lowered his own personal best and Australian record to touch the wall first in 26.32sec

We wish Sam the best of luck in aiming to qualify for the Paris Olympics later this year.
