45 Dance Academy students from Year 7-12 are currently preparing to compete at the Dancestar regional competition on April 28th. Students have been rehearsing before school, at lunchtime and after school to learn and perfect their routines. They have done all of this with less than ten weeks preparation time. Sandringham College will enter 6 teams in jazz, contemporary and hip hop and will be hoping to qualify and progress to the state competition held in June.
We wish all our students involved a very big CHOOKAS.

The past two Friday lunchtimes we have had an influx of Year 7 and 8 students join our Drama Club. Ms. Amy Porter and I have been thrilled to see students coming along to unleash their creativity and develop their confidence. We have played drama warm up games, introduced the principles of improvisation and harnessed the incredible energy in the room to enable students to work together to develop their drama skills. This co-curricular club is open to everyone; whether you're an experienced performer or have never done Drama before, you can join us and participate in all of the fun and games! The aim of this club is to enable students to develop practical skills, build confidence, and make lasting friendships.
Special thanks to Archie Hughes, senior Performing Arts Leader at Holloway campus, for coming down to Bluff Road to run activities for our younger students, speak about his experiences within the performing arts and talk to students about the musical audition process.
If you haven't yet experienced Drama Club, please come along to Room S2 on a Friday at lunchtime. Don't miss out on this opportunity to be part of something so fun!

Over two days the Year 10 music students wrote and recorded 4 songs to the 'demo stage' which was a steep learning curve but but they absolutely nailed it with the help of the Songmakers Artists. A huge thank you goes out to Claire, Nina and Joel who worked so hard and made the two days extremely exciting and engaging for all the students. Keep an eye on this space as we attempt to collaborate with the Visual Arts Domain for a music video.
Students in the VCE Theatre Studies class are working hard to interpret the script of Timberlake Wertenbaker's The Ash Girl in areas of acting, directing and design.
Students have been asked to reflect on their experiences so far.
Here's what they had to say:
As a lighting and sound designer within our VCE production “The Ashgirl”, I’ve been sourcing and creating soundscapes and music that create an eerie mood. As lighting designers, we also recently had a seminar on lighting, learning about directions of lights, fixtures, and how to overall enhance our work. This was immensely fun and insightful. I also thoroughly love watching rehearsals to brainstorm and create lighting states and sound effects that will fit well within the scenes to enhance and create tension and an ominous mood. A big challenge about staging theatre is communication and collaboration, ensuring that all our ideas and work is cohesive and fits together, which is extremely important. Hannah Goodman
The VCE production has been and is always a very exciting part of our Year 12 Theatre Studies course! Although it can be crazy busy at time, we have learnt so much about the stages of the production process and want to showcase that to you all! We have been brainstorming, completing copious amounts of group work in our productions teams to create a magical world for ‘The AshGirl’. I am in set design and we are in the process of refining our designs and are now beginning to source materials to test and trial to perfect our big ideas of how to create the world of ‘The AshGirl’. We have also been completing acting rehearsals to bring scenes together and bring to life the wacky and wonderful characters of the play, in saying this, it is vital for you to see our performance, so you can experience the passion and excitement we have put into this play to create the magical fairy tale that is The Ash Girl!

Honestly, directing has genuinely been the best experience so far in all of my classes. It has given me the chance to challenge myself and become a more creative person. I love working and collaborating with all of my talented peers; they all inspire me in different ways. It has been so challenging trying to stay organised and to stay on top of the work load, but Laura has been awesome helping me out! You should definitely buy a ticket because the cast is genuinely incredible and this play is so surprising in many ways… I can assure you will walk out of the theatre taking away an important message.
