Reading and Viewing

Students will continue developing their phonics, spelling and reading skills through the Little Learners Love Literacy program. They will further explore morphology, including how prefixes, suffixes and base words help us understand unfamiliar words. Students will apply these skills when reading decodable texts while continuing to build fluency, vocabulary and comprehension. As students complete their Stage 7.5 books, they will transition to reading library books and are encouraged to borrow a book from the school library on Thursdays.

Writing

Students will continue developing their writing skills through Little Learners Love Literacy and OCHRE. They will explore imaginative writing through The Little Prince and The Little Refugee, and persuasive writing through Tiddler and The True Story of the Three Little Pigs. Students will focus on organising their ideas, constructing sentences and using language features to communicate their ideas clearly.

Speaking and Listening

Students will continue developing their speaking and listening skills through classroom discussions and activities across the curriculum. They will practise listening attentively, asking and answering questions, sharing ideas and communicating confidently with others.

Parent Helpers

Thank you to all our parent helpers for your ongoing support in the classroom! Literacy group activities will continue throughout Term 4 with an updated roster, which was emailed to parents at the end of Term 3.

If you are unable to attend on your allocated day and would like to organise a replacement, you are welcome to do so, however, please don’t feel any pressure to find someone else if you’re unavailable. We will simply adjust the classroom activities as needed.

Mathematics

This term, students will continue developing their mathematical understanding across a range of areas. They will explore fractions by recognising and representing halves, quarters and other equal parts. Students will investigate patterns and use mathematical language to describe and continue them. They will also collect, represent and interpret data, using graphs and tables to answer questions. In Location and Space, students will develop their understanding of position, direction and movement, while also exploring how objects can be described and located using maps and grids

Religion

This term, students will explore Prayer, Liturgy and Sacrament and Scripture and Jesus. They will learn about the significance of key celebrations within the liturgical year and explore the signs, symbols and actions associated with these celebrations. Students will also reflect on how participating in liturgical celebrations brings the school and wider community together. Through Scripture and Jesus, students will explore how God’s people are portrayed in the Old and New Testament and consider how the Word of God guides and strengthens faith communities. As they learn about the Christmas story, students will reflect on how God’s message can be lived out through our relationships and actions.

Science

This term, students will explore Earth and its place within our Solar System. They will learn about the eight planets and investigate patterns in the sky, including the movement of the Sun and the changing appearance of the Moon. Students will model how Earth’s rotation causes day and night and keep a Moon diary to observe changes across a lunar cycle. They will also explore how the atmosphere, land, water and living things interact within our environment and investigate the conditions plants need to grow.

Humanities

This term, students will learn about the ancient civilisation of Mesopotamia. They will explore where Mesopotamia was located and learn about the importance of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, the city of Babylon and the Hanging Gardens. Students will also learn about cuneiform, early laws and the role of religion. They will explore what makes a civilisation and compare Mesopotamia with Ancient Egypt.

Wellbeing

Our wellbeing focus this term is Problem Solving. Students will explore strategies for managing challenges and resolving conflicts in positive and respectful ways. They will learn to identify problems, consider different perspectives and work towards fair solutions. Through discussions and activities, students will develop their communication, decision-making and problem-solving skills, while considering how their choices and actions can affect others.
