Building community in classrooms
A classroom is more than a place for learning—it is a community where every child belongs. Through shared experiences, teamwork and everyday acts of care, students are learning that each person has an important role to play. Together, they are building a classroom where they feel safe, valued and connected, ready to learn and grow.
Our students are learning that a strong classroom community is built through positive connections with one another. This is done by including others, helping classmates, sharing ideas and showing kindness and respect. It is through these everyday interactions (teacher-student, student-student) that help create a classroom where everyone feels valued, supported and part of the Uraidla PS classroom community.

Science Week
Next week we are celebrating Science Week, with this year’s theme: Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All. As part of our activities, Jess (filling in for Paige, who is on leave) will be working with all classes to create a beautiful picture using a variety of seeds and grains.
If you have any spare seeds or grains at home—including old seeds or even bird seed—we would greatly appreciate your donation. Please drop any donations to the front office before Tuesday 18th August. Your contributions will help make this a fun, hands-on learning experience for everyone.

Uraidla Primary School is excited to announce a special fundraising partnership with Gentle Folk Wine and other local sporting clubs. Local Basket Range winery—and school parents—Gentle Folk Wine is offering an outstanding selection of wines to our community at exclusive fundraiser prices.
Every order placed through this fundraiser will directly support our Pedal Prix team, helping us raise funds to buy a new bike.
The range features something for everyone, from easy-drinking Rosé, Sauvignon Blanc, and Vin de Sofa to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Syrah, and Gentle Folk’s acclaimed single-vineyard wines. Mixed six-packs are also available.

Changes to Maria's Kitchen orders
We have decided to no longer sell any frozen items from Maria's Kitchen. Teachers have let us know that they take far too long to eat! Also, we have nowhere to store them if they are half-eaten, and they make quite a mess when they thaw. Fortunately, there are lots of other yummy alternatives. Thank you for understanding!
Parents and Friends Meeting changed
The next Parents and Friends meeting has been changed to Wednesday 26th August at 7pm at the Uraidla Hotel. All are welcome!
New Bread Day Rules
We all love bread day! It is so kind and generous of the Vince family to collect extra bread from Baker’s Delight for us to enjoy. Thank you, Vinces!! 😊
Lately we’ve noticed that there is a lot of bread left on the ground after school, and also that some students are wasting bread by digging out the middle and not eating the rest. We'd like to make sure we show respect for food and gratitude for the gift we’ve received. We’re also worried about kids eating while playing, as a choking hazard. For all of these reasons, we’d like to put in some new guidelines for bread on Thursdays:
- Rolls can be eaten right away as an after-school snack, but students need to sit or stand in one place and eat them. We're asking them not to play on the playground or run around while eating their roll.
- The loaves of bread are to take home, not to eat at school. Please send a bag along with your children from home if you’d like them to take a loaf of bread home, to keep your bread clean and fresh.
If you can help us to remind your children of these new rules when you're in the yard on Thursday afternoons, we would really appreciate it. Thank you! 🍞🥖
Paint donations please!
We are getting ready to add a new mural to the wall of the inside/outside learning space outside of the Year 2 and 2/3 classrooms, and we are looking for old cans of household paint. Do you have any old paint tins collecting dust in your shed? We'd love them! Any colour is fine. These can be left at the front office. Thank you! 🖼️🖌️🎨
Book Week 2026: Symphony of Stories
We are excited to announce that Uraidla Primary School will be celebrating Book Week from Monday 24 August to Friday 28 August 2026!
This year’s theme is “Symphony of Stories” - a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the magic, diversity, and creativity found in books. Just like instruments in a symphony, all kinds of stories - funny, exciting, magical, and mysterious - come together to fill our world with wonderful adventures. Every book is like a unique instrument, and by exploring many different stories, we can enjoy the full richness of the symphony.
To celebrate, we invite each child to dress up as their favourite book character on Friday 28 August.
While we know superheroes and movie characters are always popular, this year we encourage everyone to explore characters from all kinds of stories. Here at Uraidla Primary School, we believe the best ones come from being highly creative with the use of simple, homemade costumes.
Here are some dress-up ideas:
· Classic storybook characters (e.g. Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Willy Wonka, Matilda, Pippi Longstocking, Harry Potter)
· Animals or creatures from books (e.g. The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Gruffalo, Diary of a Wombat)
· Characters from Australian stories (e.g. Possum Magic, The Rainbow Serpent, Blinky Bill)
· Famous authors or literary figures (e.g. Roald Dahl dressed in a bow tie, Mem Fox with a story book)
· Characters from music-themed or adventure stories (e.g. Peter and the Wolf, The Magic Flute, The Pied Piper)
· Everyday heroes from fiction (e.g. librarians, explorers, scientists, artists featured in children’s literature)
On the day, we will have a special parade and activities to bring the Symphony of Stories to life!

School Disco
It's on again!! The Uraidla Primary School disco will be held on Thursday, 3 September from 6-7:30 pm, in the gym. The next day is a pupil-free day!
Run by the Parents and Friends, this is a great chance for kids to dance and have some fun with their school mates.
Tickets will be $7, an Edsmart form has been emailed home for ticket purchasing.
On the night, parents sign in their children at the gym entrance at 6 pm, then collect them again at 7:30 pm. For any children who need some time out from the disco, a quiet space will be provided.
Children should bring a drink bottle. A small bag of chips is provided as a snack (gluten free) for each child. Children can dress up or just come in comfortable clothing - whatever suits them! We will have UV lights so wearing white and fluro clothing makes kids stand out!
All children are supervised by parent volunteers with support from school staff

Uraidla Primary Facebook Group
If you haven’t already heard about it, there is a Facebook group for UPS families, and we welcome everyone to join (parents/grandparents/carers all welcome). Look for “Uraidla Primary School Families” and answer the 3 simple questions on your connection to the school. This group is a friendly way to find the answers for those questions you may have (e.g. when your child tells you at the last minute its casual day tomorrow, and you can’t remember hearing about it from school!), to get reminders on events coming up, find your lost property!, or a way to connect with other families.
It is not run by the school but is supported by the UPS Governing Council, and parent admin (Jodi Braley) will post information regularly. It is designed to be a group with input from all – so contribute in any way you want to. If you do have a question that you don’t want to post yourself, feel free to forward to Jodi (either by facebook message, email jodi.braley@hotmail.com, or in person at school), who is more than happy to help.
Enrolment in Reception
If you have a child turning 5 in the next 12 months, they should have already enrolled or registered their interest to start school. Children either start school at the start of the year or in July, depending on their age.
Please note that the kindy and school zones are not the same. Enrolment in the Uraidla and Hills Community Preschool does not automatically mean you will have access to enrolment at Uraidla Primary School. Please contact our front office for clarification.
Our school has now reached capacity, which means that we give priority enrolment to children in our catchment area. Please note that younger siblings of existing students are guaranteed enrolment.
If you are speaking to other families about enrolling in school, they can find their local school through the Find My School website: Find a school zone or preschool catchment area (education.sa.gov.au)
Enrolments for the start of 2027 are now overdue, and we hope to have enrolments for the mid-year 2027 intake finalised by February. Please contact the front office for a registration of interest form today!
