Dear parents, carers and friends of EEPS,

This day in 1963 Eltham East Primary School opened its doors to the first intake of students. In fact, when we opened EEPS was originally known as Grove Street School. It is always enjoyable to reflect and to know that our current generation of students are connected to a longer history.

Preps 100 Days at School

Speaking of history, it was fantastic to be able to celebrate the Preps’ 100 days at school, last Friday. Thank you to the Prep team, Miss Lapadula and Mrs Jackson, who helped set things up for such a great day. There were many ‘old people’ and a variety of groups of ‘100 things, Mrs Hughes even had $100 on her hat!

Concert - ‘More Than Music’

The rehearsals are well and truly underway for our wonderful concert on Tuesday 8th September. Information about ticket sales is provided in the newsletter but the key point is that the ticket sales will go live on Thursday 6th August at 10.00 am.

New Minister for Education

With the recent cabinet reshuffle there is a new Minister for Education. This, with a renewed push by the Premier to increase school funding, will hopefully lead to a quick resolution to the current industrial negotiations.

Principals’ Day

This Friday is Principals’ Day. It marks the final day of National Primary Education Week (3–7 August 2026), dedicated to honouring the leadership, mentorship and community-building efforts of school principals across the country. Whilst I am the Principal, I am ably assisted by two Assistant Principals, Lisa Joseph and Melissa Egan, and together we feel genuinely supported by our wonderful EEPS community.

Science Talent Search

The Science Talent Search has been one of great learning opportunities bubbling along in the background. Here is a special message form Mrs Kwan, who has done a superb job of organising STS this year.

“Thank you to all EEPS students who participated in the Science Talent Search this year. We are impressed by the response, and we are excited to share that we have received 33 student entries. It was wonderful to see so much creativity, knowledge, and collaboration from our students. The results will be released in term 4. We look forward to celebrating everyone’s achievements then.”

Last Week

Well done to the District Athletics team last week. Everyone tried their best, supported each other and with some really great results. 

Thank you, also to the EEPS community members who expressed their gratitude to Jess, Marrisa, Signe and the team, at our OSHC service on National OSHC Educators’ Day last Wednesday.

Building Developments

This week I had the privilege of showing some architects around our school as part of the next phase of planning for the oval upgrade and competition sized stadium. This is a slow process, and I will provide updates as they come to hand.

Attendance

I would like to take the opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of full school attendance. There are a small number of children, for whom we have formalised arrangements for modified timetables. We also recognise that, from time to time, attending appointments within school hours is unavoidable. However, regularly arriving late, or leaving early for the majority of our students has an accumulative impact on learning and is very disruptive.
