GREAT NARANGA PROGRAMS SUPPORTING STUDENT GROWTH

Dear parents, carers, and students,

As another busy week draws to an end, I wanted to take the time to promote some of the amazing programs we have in place at Naranga that are unlocking student potential.  Reading, writing and arithmetic are the priority in school, but there are so many other programs in place that are designed to support growth in areas such as leadership, creativity, motor skills and independence.

Student Representative Council

This week at Assembly we welcomed Paul Edbrooke MP as our special guest to present our SRC members with their 2024 badges.  We have expanded our SRC roles over the years.  There are now 27 students in student leadership roles at Naranga.  This year we introduced a Sustainability Leader and three Koorie Emerging Leaders in Schools (KELIS). Our student leaders meet weekly with school leaders and add their voices to school planning as well as working on special events for their classmates.

Nudel Kart

A recent grant enabled us to purchase a Nudel Kart.  A Nudel Kart is a deconstructable, mobile play cart that can be reconfigured in endless ways to encourage self-directed learning.  It stimulates creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, communication and brain development.  The Nudel Kart has been integrated into our Breaktime Activities and is very popular.

Active Schools Fund

Another grant from the Active Schools Fund has helped us purchase some equipment for our Perceptual Motor Program.  Perceptual Motor Program (PMP) is a program based on movement that helps younger students enhance their hand-eye and foot-eye coordination.  It is a great way to support development of fitness, balance, and movement.  We are using the Active Schools Fund for more equipment that will promote

School Camps

This week I was very lucky to attend the Outdoor Education camp at Rubicon Outdoor School.  School camps are possibly the best way to take students out of their comfort zone and really develop their independence, resilience and maturity.  The past three days I witnessed Naranga students show amazing courage on the high ropes course and conquer their fears during an exhilarating white water rafting adventure.  I was so proud of how the students took on these challenges and others.

These are just a few of the amazing programs offered at Naranga School.  They demonstrate our commitment to developing the whole child from prep to graduation.
