- Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry – Boosting Business with Career Services
Businesses highly value the role of career services in creating a high performing and efficient labour market. The VCCI Career Services Policy Paper puts forward policy recommendations that enable lifelong learning, place-based careers activities, and a system that prepares people to navigate their careers.
- Pathways for Education, Training and Employment
The ACCE diagram below illustrates Australia’s key learning pathways to employment. Most
importantly, none of the pillars or steps are more important than the other. As students’ progress through school, they can transition to curriculum in vocational education and training or in higher education. Choices are not limited and the potential to move between levels expands as students’ progress through the system.
Careers in Agriculture
Many people believe working in the agriculture industry involves unskilled, low-paid roles, outside on farms in rural areas. But, in reality, the world of agricultural work needs a diverse range of skilled people working in different environments from the paddock to the plate. Australian Jobs 2023 also includes an overview of trends in the Australian labour market to support job seekers, employment service providers, career practitioners, those considering future training and people interested in labour market issues.
- 2024 School Leavers Resources
The NCI has released updated resources for young people aged 15 – 24 who are considering their next steps after school, changing direction or making decisions about their next move. Specific resources are also available for parents/carers, young people from regional areas, with disability or who identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. - Skills Priority List and Skills Shortage Drivers
This month, Jobs and Skills Australia released the Skill Shortage Drivers (SSD) into the Skills Priority List (SPL). The SSD is a preliminary attempt to identify the potential causes or ‘drivers’ of occupations that are rated as ‘in shortage’ in the SPL. For example Architects and Landscape Architects SSD is ‘Suitability Gap’ while Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Mechanics is ‘Long Training Gap’. You need to view the SPL data by Unit Group (4 digit) to be able to view the SSD Skills Priority List | Jobs and Skills Australia

This recently launched campaign is designed to help young people and their families/carers to better understand the differences and benefits of each Year 11 and 12 study program/option in Victoria.
The new campaign has a personal focus to encourage students to discover and choose a VCE that suits their world, so they can pursue their talents and passions

VCE VET
For students and families looking for simple information on approved VCE VET programs in preparation for subject selection, please consider the following:
- 2024 Get VET program chart – this poster provides a list of all VCE VET programs, including if a program offers Units 1–2 and/or Units 3–4. It also lists programs that offer non-scored or scored assessment.
- Get VET – page containing huge wealth of resources relating to VET offerings available in Victorian Secondary School.
Virtual Work Experience Program in Tech
The Tech Council of Australia, together with Year 13, have released virtual work experience videos to assist students to develop awareness in a wide range of areas, such as cyber security, software engineering, data science and network engineering. The videos are interactive and
complement real life learning gained from work experience. The videos can be accessed here.
