Sustainability

with notes from our Sustainability leaders

Nude Food Day

There was a great effort by the whole school on the Sustainability Leaders' initiated nude food day on 26 October. Across the four classes, an average of 85.7% of students present on the day, had nude food. The F-1 were the class with the most nude food for the day. Great effort F-1!

Having nude food with less packaging, is now seen in many of the students' lunch boxes across the school. This is a great improvement since 2022. With students taking responsibility for the soft plastic waste by taking it back home, we have seen a huge reduction in litter in the school yard. This means less litter in the creek and in the surrounding pasture land, where it can cause problems for grazing animals, water and land birds and aquatic species.

Thank you to the families who generally support this initiative at Newham Primary School, and by making the extra effort on nude food days.

Frog Pond and Bog Project

Leo and Iris helped Jo Thompson with the laying of the mulch around our frog bog. The next step is to put up the shade sail that has been generously donated by the Wiseman-Fleming family. We are also purchasing extra plants to surround the pond which will create more shelter, enriching our frog habitat.
