Junior Class News

This term in the Junior room we are focusing on building our independence when completing activities during our reading routine! All of our activities are aligned with the Science of Reading research and approach. Every day, students independently read a decodable text passage and draw what their story tells them! Each passage is chosen to support children at their own stage of their reading journey:

Next, they complete a reading comprehension text across different genres like reports, narrative, procedure and description, and respond to different questions:

Finally, they pick levelled texts to read using whisper phones to hear their own intonation, errors and fluency:

We are so excited to have purchased 'Rhino Readers' from Twinkl that align beautifully to our spelling, reading and writing lessons - these texts will be coming home, too! In each 'Rhino Reader' book, there are sounds to practice, heart/sight words to learn and questions to answer. Our classrooms are now full of 'Rhino Reader' fiction and non-fiction texts, and allow our children to progress to the next 'level' when they are ready. So many exciting reading milestones to achieve and celebrate this term!
