Principal's Report

Dear families and friends of MPW,
We are close to the end of Term 3, it has been a busy term with a lot of engaging opportunities for our students and community, including excursions, incursions, sporting events and clinics, and Book Week and Science Week activities.
Show Day this Friday
As we reach the end of the term, we have our annual Show Day celebration and community event on Friday at 12:15pm. We encourage parents and families to attend and join in on the fun of the Show Day experience, you can enter from the Athol Street gate. Show Day is a student led event that brings the school community together to share in some fun, whilst celebrating the creativity and ingenuity of our students. We have a great range of stalls this year with the Haunted House, hair spray and beauty salons, sporting activities, throw the sponge, whack-a-mole, and puzzles and challenges.
Students have been encouraged to dress in the theme of ‘Bringing the country to the city’ as this is historically what the Melbourne Show as about.
End of Term reminders
Next week is the last week of term 3. We conclude the term at 2.30pm on Friday 19th September. We will hold next week’s assembly on Friday morning at 9:05am, so no assembly this Monday.
The last week of Term is Planning Week, where teachers will begin their planning for Term 4’s learning. Students will engage in their specialists’ classes on their Planning Day listed below:
5/6 team- Monday 15th
Foundation team- Tuesday 16th
3/4 team- Wednesday 17th
1/2 team- Thursday 18th
Specialist team- Friday 19th

Mobile Phones Reminder
Students who choose to bring mobile phones to school must have them switched off and securely stored during school hours, including recess and lunchtime, unless an exception has been granted by the Principal. At Moonee Ponds West Primary School, students are required to store their phones at the General Office upon arrival, where the device will be labelled and stored securely.
When emergencies occur, parents or carers should reach their child by calling the school’s office.
Students are encouraged not to bring a mobile phone to school unless there is a compelling reason to do so.
Similarly, our Mobile Phone policy also includes Smart Watches, students wearing a watch should have communication and connectivity features turned off during school hours.
Parent Survey Reminder
A reminder that the Parent Survey is open until Friday 19th September. We encourage you to complete this as it will contribute to identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.The survey is being conducted online and only takes 20 minutes to complete.
Term 4 reminder
A reminder that we have a Curriculum Day on the 3rd of November and a Public Holiday on the 4th of November. Please see upcoming events in the Community Calendar.
Comedy Fundraiser
Finally, a reminder that the MPW Comedy Night is this Saturday night, this is a fundraising opportunity to support school resourcing and improvements. To avoid missing out, buy your tickets now on Eventbrite.
When: Saturday 13th September, Check in from 5:30pm
Where: Essendon Rowing Club
What:
- Comedy performances start at 6:30pm, please see the attached flyer for an updated list of comedians performing on the night. This section of the evening will be seated.
- DJ and Music from 8:00pm, comedy seating will be removed to open up the space for dancing and socialisation.
- Drinks are available to purchase from the Bar from 6pm till late.
- During the night we will be holding a live auction at the venue at 9pm.
- There will also be raffles and games throughout the evening, and snack packs available for purchase. We will be accepting cash and EFTPOS for these opportunities to support the fundraising efforts.
Tickets are $50 per person including canapes.
