Mr Michael Busscher, Head of Middle School

Year 9 Social

Thank you for your incredible support of the Year 9 Dancing Program with Loreto College. We have had such a tremendous response with the number of boys involved and their enthusiasm at our dancing practices each Monday afternoon that Eric (our dancing instructor) has asked that we have one more additional practice on Monday, 2 June from 3.30pm-4.30pm so that he can fully prepare everyone for the official Social evening.

Just a reminder to all, that the lessons culminate in a Year 9 Dance Social for participants of the dancing program only on Wednesday, 4 June from 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start until 9.00pm finish at the O’Collins Hall at St Patrick's Cathedral. Students are expected to dress appropriately for this occasion without going to great expense (Semi-formal) which is slacks, clean shoes, button up shirt and possibly even a tie.  No runners, please. Please be aware that the girls will dress to an equal standard so it’s important that we look our best. Every student participating in the dance lessons will be expected to attend the Social.

Year 9 Retreat

The Year 9 Retreat was conducted last week. It was facilitated by RealTalk Ministries, with the theme of ‘Stronger’. The day encourages and challenges students to work on themselves and their relationships by making good, and at times, hard decisions. Stronger awakens the idea that men are shaped by the choices they make. Stronger is a step towards recognising the key role relationships play in shaping boys into young men.

By tackling the big issues like respect in relationships, peer pressure, and bullying, in a way that encourages our boys to be men of character, whilst affirming the dignity of women. Like the muscles that give physical strength - character and success are propagated through good training and hard work. Stronger calls forth a higher standard for the men of tomorrow and thus we continue to meet the goal of educating our young boys to be hope-filled, compassionate and confident young men for their place in the world.

One Night of Homelessness

The Year 10’s participated in “One Night of Homelessness” on Thursday, 29 May. This is a unique and meaningful experience designed to help our boys gain empathy and understanding of those who face hardship by simulating aspects of life as a homeless person.

And while the actual temperature only dropped down to 7.8C overnight, the 'feels like' temperature was a chilly 2.7C so it was a real eye opener for the boys. Thank you to all students who participated in the event, as well as the staff who helped overnight.
