Future Purpose Day

On Tuesday, 20 May, our Year 10 students participated in the Future Ready program ran by Crazy Ideas College. A big thanks to the Year 10 team, especially Rebekah Curtis-Lester and Daniel Willey for their assistance in the planning and organisation of this event.

This program highlights that the world of work is transforming in significant ways, and many young people lack confidence in their workforce futures.

Future Ready enables young people to envisage a hopeful future, explore the future world of work, and consider career options. In developing a Future Ready Plan, learners outline the skills and connections they will cultivate to move towards a life well lived.

During the program, boys focused on the areas below:

  • Exploring the world of work through job clusters and what industries are searching for in individuals with skill sets and attributes.
  • Making informed decisions on subjects for VCE/VM pathways as students prepare for 2026 subject selection.
  • Reflecting on one’s own skill sets, supporting networks, talents, passions, and future achievements that will support in making informed decisions about pathways.

Cyber Safety Presentations

Susan McLean
Susan McLean

Next week, the school will welcome Susan McLean again. Last year Susan visited SPC to speak to our parents around important issues in Cyber Safety. This session was very beneficial for parents and staff alike in understanding the cyber world and the challenges that our young people face and what we can do to help keep them safe online.

This year, Susan is coming back to speak to our students in the Performing Arts Centre.

Susan is considered Australia’s foremost expert in the area of cyber safety. A former member of Victoria Police for 27 years, she is widely known as the ‘cyber cop’ and was the first Victorian Police Officer appointed to a position involving cyber safety and young people.

This age appropriate and interactive session for secondary students includes discussion, a vibrant power point presentation and is supported by videos and Susan's real-life experiences. Topics discussed will include:

  • The Facts - What do you need to know about cyberspace to make good online decisions. Fact v Fiction - Reality v Perception.
  • Digital Reputation – How what you do online now and what you post will have an impact on your future opportunities. What do people look for and how to make your digital reputation and digital footprint as positive as possible.
  • Cyberbullying - What is cyberbullying and how/when does it occur. The impact on the victim, and what we can do if we see it. How/where to report if it is happening to us. Laws and Legislation.
  • Grooming and online child sex offenders - How offenders find victims and what they might ask for.  What is online grooming, what does it looks like and where might it occur.
  • Sending/asking for nudes - Sending, receiving and possessing naked or sexually explicit images. What are the real consequences for under 18's, pressure to conform and legal considerations.
  • AI – How does the law treat Deep Fake nudes?
  • Sextortion – Sexual Blackmail. What it looks like, what to do and how and where to report.
  • Consent and the law

Susan's secondary school student sessions are delivered with clarity and humour and will challenge students to stop and think about what they do online and what the consequences might be for them not only today, but for the rest of their lives.
