The annual BAS Badminton Singles Championships were held at Ken Kay Stadium on Friday, 23 May. SPC took a strong hand of four players to the event, all eager to compete well and push for the title.
In the pool games, Kayden Lin and Paddy Casey both won all of their matches booking an automatic place in the semi-finals. Garry Dhinni and George Muller didn’t have the same level of success, but both boys played to a high standard and should be proud of their performances.
The semi-finals saw Kayden and Paddy come out on top against two tough opponents from Ballarat High and Ballarat Grammar and set up an all SPC Final! In a high-quality final, both boys had their moments to get on top, but ultimately it was the touch and placement of Paddy that saw him take the win and be crowned the BAS Badminton Singles Champion for 2025!
Congratulations to all four students on the way they represented the College. As they are all eligible to compete again in the tournament next year, we look forward to seeing them return in 2026 to defend the title.
Congratulations to the entire SPC Aths team for their back-to-back boys' win at the annual BAS carnival on Tuesday, 6 May. With only 36 points separating SPC and Ballarat Grammar boys, which equates to two 'A' division wins, it was so important to fill every event all day.
SPC won the junior and intermediate age divisions and came second in the seniors. With excellent weather for May, the team comradery, willingness to 'step in' on the day and positive attitude was a credit to the boys and their captains, Jack Sherman and Cody Torney. Congratulations to our new BAS record holders:
There were many athletes with multiple PB's and multiple placings, but a special mention to:
Year 7: Cooper Hancock 4 wins; Archer Spackman 3 wins, 1 second; Tom Power 2 wins, 1 second.
Year 8: Ollie Ryan 3 wins; Isaac Thomas 2 wins, 1 second; Joe Knobel 2 wins, 1 second.
Year 9: Brandon Triangolo 3 wins; Trigger Roberts 2 wins, 2 seconds; Joaquin Flores 2 wins, 1 second, 1 third.
Year 10: Jack Sheehan 2 wins, 2 seconds; Lucas Byrne 2 wins, 1 third; Jai Anderson 1 win, 2 seconds.
Year 11: Archie Elliott 1 win, 2 seconds, 1 third; Jett Spratling 1 win, 1 second; Game Namtho 1 win, 1 second.
Year 12: Cody Torney (C) 2 wins, 1 second; Jack Sherman (C) 3 seconds; Shannon Taylor 1 win, 2 seconds; Jack Cleary 1 win, 1 second; Fraser Molan 1 win, 1 second, 1 fourth; Jett Florence 1 win, 1 second; Jackson McInerney 2 seconds; Blake Wilkinson 2 seconds; Josh Remington 2 seconds; Rhys Younger 1 win, 1 fourth; Hugo Artz 1 win; Paddy Mihaljevic 1 win.
As host school this year, a big thankyou to those staff who were involved in set up, officiating and team management all day. And finally, to our Year 12's who competed in their final BAS Athletics Carnival, as listed above, thank you for your many years of fine contributions to SPC Athletics. Good luck for your future sporting endeavours!

ACC 1st XI
The St Pat’s First XI were back to winning ways this week, with a big win against St Joseph’s FTG. The four hour round trip to Ferntree Gully did not sour the boys’ appetite for goal, as we took an almost unblemished result of 15-1 back home to Ballarat.
With goalscorers aplenty, some of the most exciting moments included Nabubie and Kambashe both scoring their first ACC goals coming off the bench, a McEldrew rocket from range, and a spectacular combination between Severino and Remington with a deep cross and headered goal.
Perhaps the most surprising part of the encounter was the MVP of the game—St Joseph’s goalkeeper. While it is typically uncommon for a player on the losing side of a 14 goal margin to be considered the best player of the game, the goalkeeper saved upward of 50 clear-cut goalscoring opportunities over the course of the game—highlighting again St Pat’s dominance.

SPC Green 2 lost to Ballarat High 3
In their second home game for the season, SPC Green took on Ballarat High in a game where both teams had significant wins in the previous round. Ballarat High showed their class early, taking a quick 2 – 0 lead. During the halftime break SPC Green reflected on their attack and ball movement and came out with a stronger focus. A penalty to Murebami Ilesanmi opened the scoring for SPC Green before Aiden Atherton was able to find the net with an excellent strike. Aiden O’Keefe was a standout on the right wing throughout the second half, asking plenty of questions of the Ballarat High defence. Excellent defensive performances by Joaquin Flores and Zaiden Wandel ensured that the game remained tight. With a late goal, Ballarat High were able to close out their very strong performance.
Goals: Murebami Ilesanmi 1, Aiden Atherton 1
SPC Blue 9 def Clarendon College 0
SPC Blue took the pitch again for their first away game of the season on Wednesday against Clarendon College Black. The team were looking for a win after a difficult loss to Ballarat High at home the previous week. A return to the team was positive for Jack with him being an active player and scoring more than once throughout the game. There was lots of positive play with the ball remaining near the SPC for a lot of the game and multiple scores going to Jake Remington and Kade Howden as well as an awesome header from Henry Reeve. Special mentions also going to Cyrus Fordham and Ambrose Whybrow for having a go at being the goalie, with Ambrose making an awesome save.
SPC Blue 2 lost to Ballarat High School 3
Goals: Paddy Casey 1, Jack Boyd 1
SPC Blue raced down to the pitch for their home game against Ballarat High School on Wednesday. The team were hoping that after a solid game against SPC Green the previous week had resulted in a win, that they could continue their form. Early in the game was competitive with the ball continually being moved up each end until Ballarat High was able to get the first goal. Not long after, SPC Blue equalised with a great goal from Paddy Casey. After a second goal from Ballarat High, the SPC Blue forwards and midfield ensured plenty of opportunities came with Jack Boyd finding the back of the net. Despite some excellent late attempts, a final goal to Ballarat High gave them the game Special mention to Adam Siemensman for stepping in the referee in the second half of the game and Ambrose Whybrow for his continual energy in the defence.
The best form of communication we have with parent/guardians is via the Parent Access Module (PAM). Students require permission to participate in all sport. Parent/guardians will receive the information through a PAM activity permission. Please ensure that you read the information prior to giving permission and that you also talk to students about the information.
The daily messages are one of the best ways we can distribute information to students about sports that are on offer and where sign-up meetings will be held. Students should check the daily messages regularly.
Once students have signed up for a sport, we will be adding them into a MS Teams group where they can communicate directly with their coach. Students must communicate with their coach if they are unavailable for a match so we can find a replacement to ensure we have a full team for each match.
If students are unsure of how to sign up for a sport or want more information, they can visit sports staff in the gymnasium.
All sport uniforms can be purchased at Dobsons Uniform Shop, located in Mair St, Ballarat. Students need to ensure they are in the correct uniform to participate in Sport. We have a fantastic uniform, and students should wear the Green, White and Blue with pride.
The general sport uniform is the navy blue polo top, navy shorts and white socks. Certain sports will require very specific clothing e.g. 1st XI Cricketers require SPC Whites, SPC cricket shirt and SPC cricket cap. Students should check with their coach as to what is required. Also remember to wear sunscreen at all times.
I wish all students and coaches the best in 2025. Always play the game in the right spirit, wear the correct uniform and respect the facilities, home and away. St Patrick’s College is steeped in sporting tradition and 2024 was an historic year for Sport at SPC.
