Dear St Michael’s School families,

Prayer

Loving God,

We are deeply grateful to be celebrating

80 years of faith, learning, and service in our community.

We thank You for the vision of those who came before us—priests, parishioners, leaders, teachers, families, and students—whose dedication laid the foundations on which we stand today.

Bless our community as we honour our past,

celebrate our present, and look with hope toward the future.

Strengthen the bonds that unite us.

Guide our staff, families, and parishioners in wisdom and compassion.

Inspire our children to grow in courage, kindness, and faith.

May Your Spirit continue to dwell among us,

so that our school and parish remain places of welcome, peace, and deep belonging.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

Holy Week - Please see our Religious Education section of this newsletter for information about Holy Week. We strongly enourage you to see the Parish newsletter for what's happening during this imporatnt time in the church calendar.

I take this opportunity to thank each of you who, in any way, assisted, contributed, supported attended our celebration day to make it the great success that it was! With every generous donation to helping to put up marquees to designing posters and letters; whatever you contrinuted or supported with, a heartfelt thanks is extended to you from the Parish and School community.

It truly was a delight to see so many people present for our Eucharist, led by Father Darien and Deacon Malcolm. It was a joy to watch the children process in, our School Leaders read the prayers, members of our choir join the Parish choir and then enjoying the energy of our drummers as the congregation made its way to the school—each moment added richness and joy to the day.

It was also heartening to reconnect with former Principals and meet some of the earliest leaders of St Michael’s School, who generously shared stories and memories from their time in our community. Our alumni, gathered around the memorabilia, also enjoyed reminiscing—many happy to share a tale or two about their school days. It is the work of these former members of the community who helped as today to realize projects like the top courts; just as our work today will provide funds to support other projects for future generations to come.

A warm thank you also goes to all who prepared sporting events, staffed stalls, and ensured the day ran smoothly. As we know, many hands make light work, and this was clearly evident in the seamless setup and pack-up across the weekend.

Thank you once again for your spirit of generosity, teamwork, and celebration. Our 80th anniversary was a testament to the strength and heart of our community. Whilst it wasn't the main focus of the day, it was pleasing to see that we raised just over $7000 which will help our community to fund future projects, such as the quadrangle uplift and Bush Play areas.

EASTER EGG RAFFLE

PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE OF DATE!

Traditionally we hold our Easter Egg raffle on the final day of Term 1. However, given our Beach Program is happening next week and there will be some classes who will not return until close to 3.30pm on that day, I've informed the Easter Bunny to come for a visit on FRIDAY 24TH APRIL, 2.30PM so that we can draw the raffle then. Tickets with information fliers will be made available to families shortly and need to be returned no later than Wednesday 22nd April. The Easter Bunny has confirmed he can change the date for us. Phew!

CHILD SAFETY STANDARDS PAGE

This year we are introducing a Child Safety page to the newsletter. The Child Safe Standards are a set of 11 requirements that organisations must follow to create a culture and environment that is safe for children. These standards aim to prevent, respond to, and report child abuse by requiring organisations to implement policies, procedures, and practices that put children’s safety and well-being first. They were developed in response to inquiries and recommendations from Royal Commissions and aim to drive cultural change within organisations that provide services or facilities for children.

Each month, we will share one of the 11 standards in the newsletter to familiarise all the St Michael's community about what each standard stands for in detail. This month, Child Safe Standard 1 is Creating a Culturally Safe Environment for Aboriginal Children. See our Child Safety Page for details.

We acknowledge the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we learn, play, pray, work and gather.

We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and we honour the ongoing cultural, spiritual and educational contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
