Zoo Excursion
In the final week of Term 2, the Year 7 Science topic of Habitats and Classification culminated in an excursion to the Adelaide Zoo.
Students were tasked with visiting a range of exhibits and classifying the organisms using the taxonomic classification system studied in their classes. By using characteristics such as body covering, breathing structures, limbs and tails, students could determine whether animals were mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians or monotremes. The Year 7s also considered animals belonging to different habitats, and the adaptations these organisms possess to ensure they can survive in their environments. Students were also tasked with analysing and sketching an animal enclosure and suggesting improvements to its design, as well as learning about endangered animals and risks of extinction. Despite a week of rain, the day of the excursion was sunny and dry. Students enjoyed the opportunity to work in groups and apply their learning in an authentic context. I would like to personally thank all of the staff members who attended the excursion for allowing students this opportunity.

Inaugural Endeavour College Snow Trip:
New Zealand
The inaugural Endeavour Snow Trip to New Zealand was successfully run during the July holidays. Twenty four senior years students and three staff made their way to the beautiful Queenstown region of the South Island where we were mesmerised by the scale of the mountains, lakes and rivers.
For most students this was the first time seeing snow and for many, their first time out of Australia. The snow quality was good, and the students spent five days learning from expert instructors at both The Remarkables and Cardrona snow fields.
We were blessed with bluebird days and superb learning conditions of light winds, low crowds and warmish (-5 to -1 degrees celsius) conditions.
It was really exciting to see the progressions the students made during the week on either their ski’s or snowboards. Some students even progressed to the stage of hitting jumps and rails, as well as making their way down intermediate and advanced trails.
A big highlight of the trip was our ‘rest’ day, in which we blazed through the canyons of the Shotover river in a jet boat, rode a gondola to have fun on the luge and then sat down to a gourmet buffet dinner overlooking Queenstown and the mountains surrounding this gorgeous town.
Students also got to experience the world famous Fergburger, Winnie's Pizza Restaurant with their opening roof, an ice hockey game and Queenstown elite shopping district.
A big thanks to the staff for helping to make this happen and the students for their attitudes to learning and taking on challenges.
We are already in the planning for next year's trip, so keep your eyes and ears posted for information and promotional materials.

Year 12 Retreat
Following the Transition Breakfast last Wednesday, the Year 12s embarked for their final Retreat experience at Mylor.
Students returned to the site of their Year 7 Camp in this important step in the formation of our senior students as they prepare for life beyond Endeavor College.
The retreat aims to consolidate friendships and belonging, as well as exploring contemporary issues for young people with activities that help the Year 12s look both within themselves and to their faith.
Guest presenters Dave and Bec were thoughtful and engaging as they navigated contemporary issues around respectful relationships, consent and empowerment, online addiction and how our students can be the best version of themselves.
One highlight of these sessions was the opportunity to re-connect with their teachers from the Year 9 Voyage experience who helped facilitate the small group discussions.
Retreat was a great opportunity to bond, connect, make memories and grow as individuals, especially regarding the girls chat we had. This chat was really educational, it opened our eyes to experiences that will be crucial to know to maintain healthy and safe relationships. It was very enjoyable and helped our year level connect with one another on a deeper level.

Dave's presentation was a rewarding experience that further built our understanding of healthy relationships. Lucas Fruend
Mixed in with this serious content was the opportunity to simply have fun and enjoy each other's company.
Highlights included the student leaders’ quiz night, archery, high ropes challenged and the giant swing.
The final day of Retreat gave students an opportunity to reflect on their Endeavour journey and how our values of Love, Courage, Forgiveness and Hope have guided their development. The impact of these personal and group reflections will be powerfully felt for years to come.
A huge thank you to the Ministry Team, especially Youth Chaplain Andrea Campbell, and all the staff both on camp and behind the scenes, for organising this amazing event.
