Clontarf Academy

Mr David Friebel, Clontarf Academy Director

It’s hard to believe we are halfway through Term 3 already. While the term is short, we are still packing in the same amount of action.

Last week, three of our senior boys had the opportunity to join Clontarf members from across Victoria in the annual Clontarf Regional Work Experience week. Our boys had a firsthand experience of what life in the big smoke is like with early morning commutes to their host employers, experience living in a ‘share house’ and handling all of the duties themselves such as cooking and cleaning.

Our boys were lucky to get this experience with each of them having legitimate ‘Wow’ moments whilst at work. Dez Sambono was placed with Fulton Hogan and had hands on experiences mixing Asphalt, learning about major projects and large-scale material management for these projects. Riley Seden-Kurnoth was placed at Collingwood Footy Club, working with the community team. Riley helped with trainings, learnt what goes on behind the scenes on match days and hung out with some of the biggest names in footy.

TJ Wortley was hosted to Jetstar and was lucky enough to have experience on the flight simulator, seeing firsthand the maintenance and automotive side of the industry and getting comfy in the cockpits in some of Australia’s biggest planes. At the completion of the week, the boys presented to our partners on their own story and what they had learned form the experience. These opportunities could not be possible without our Clontarf partners who consistently provide opportunities for our boys.

Our boys have also been busy hosting visitors in the Academy space. Being the closest Clontarf Academy to Melbourne we are a destination for our partners to come and have interactions with our boys. From morning trainings to lunches, these interactions often open doors for our boys and are great opportunities for them to show their strength n leadership.

We have continued to be busy with our morning trainings and afterschool activities with Ice Skating, Laser tag, resume writing and career planning sessions, table tennis tournaments all filling up engagement activities before and after school.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big congratulations to our boys who received academic awards last week. We are proud of the way our boys are tackling their education and taking advantage of the opportunity to work with St Patrick's College teachers. The partnership is only gaining momentum in this space, and I feel our results will continue to improve with more of our boys in the frame for these awards in the future.
