Celebrating Perseverance, Character, and Academic Excellence

Last Thursday, our College community gathered to honour the achievements of our Semester One Academic Excellence Award recipients. While the day was filled with well-deserved recognition of our high achievers, the occasion was about something far deeper—celebrating the very heart of our identity as a school and our shared humanity: the desire to learn. And learning is more than simply accumulating facts; when we engage with ideas that challenge and inspire us, it shapes our character.

At the assembly, we celebrated three significant sets of awards that highlight the breadth of achievement and dedication within our College community: the Academic Endeavour Awards, the Chris Nolan Awards, and the Principal’s Academic Excellence Awards. It was wonderful to see the return of the Academic Endeavour Awards; these are special honours that recognise perseverance, and the character it takes to always give your best. Presented to students in each Year Level, these awards acknowledge those who have demonstrated extraordinary effort and commitment across all of their subjects.

The Chris Nolan Awards and the Principal’s Academic Excellence Awards were presented to recognise students who have demonstrated consistently outstanding academic achievement. The Chris Nolan Awards honour students whose results place them in the top 10 per cent across all of their subjects. The Principal’s Academic Excellence Awards recognise the highest-achieving student in each VCE and VCE VM Unit 3 subject.

As a community, we joined in congratulating all recipients, celebrating their determination, passion for learning, and commitment to personal growth. As I shared with the boys during the ceremony, it is important for our boys to remember that learning has no limits. Too often, we place artificial boundaries around our abilities, but real learning thrives when we ask bold questions, pursue our curiosity, and learn for the sheer joy of discovery.

These awards remind us that academic excellence is not about perfection, but about the fullest development of our knowledge, understanding, and skills—so that we can be of greater service to others.

To all our students: may you continue to strive for your own personal best, to embrace learning as a lifelong adventure, and to remember that your achievements—whether celebrated publicly or quietly earned—shape not only your future, but the life of our community.
