Principal's Report

Term 2, Week 3

Dear St FX Parents and Carers,

Welcome to Week 3.  I hope all our mothers, grandmothers and mother-figures were all suitably spoiled yesterday!

Mother’s Day Breakfast

It was truly my pleasure to be part of the Mother's Day Breakfast last Friday morning! Seeing everyone come together to celebrate the wonderful mothers in our community was heartwarming, and I thoroughly enjoyed the lively atmosphere. Although we ran out of bacon towards the end, there was still plenty to celebrate. I would like to thank Sonja Leitch for her generous donation of eggs and to all our dedicated staff who assisted in making the morning such a success with flowers, tablecloths, smiles and conversations.

Mother’s Day Stall

With a new look P and F Committee, captained by our president Mel O’Connor, the Mother’s Day Stall was a complete success-once again! This tradition is now over 10 years running and it is such a wonderful community event. I hope all the mothers in our community received not only a lovely gift but also a big hug and plenty of love from their families.

Parents and Friends Committee

The newly formed committee has planned for at least one community event and one fundraising event per term. Term 2 will focus on raising funds for a “Buddy Seat” for the playground.

What is a “Buddy Seat”? It is often called a "buddy bench" or "friendship bench," and is a designated seat where a child can sit if they are feeling lonely, left out, or need someone to talk to or play with. It serves as a silent signal. The idea is to encourage other children to notice someone on the buddy seat and invite them to join their games or simply have a chat.

  • Promote kindness and empathy: They encourage children to be aware of others' feelings and to reach out to those who might be feeling lonely.
  • Foster inclusion: They help create a more welcoming and inclusive playground environment where everyone feels like they belong.
  • Develop social skills: They provide opportunities for children to practice initiating interactions and making new friends.

Happy 140 years and Catholic Schools Week

Our school would like to invite the school community to attend a special Assembly on Friday 30th May to celebrate St Francis Xavier’s Primary School’s birthday during Catholic Schools Week.  We would also like your help!

If you have any photographs, artefacts or memorabilia that you would be willing to lend for a display in the library, we would greatly appreciate it! Please feel free to drop items off to our office over the coming weeks.  On the day, we will also have lunch on the lawn,  open classrooms and of course…cake for our visitors.

News from the Church

This week was busy with the news that we officially welcomed Bishop Peter Murphy to our Diocese as he was ordained last Thursday evening. Following this event was another announcement, as we awoke to a newly elected Pope of American descent  -  Pope Leo XIV.

General Note

This term is a big one for a lot of our students, particularly with sporting trials and the Eisteddfod occurring this term. I extend my best wishes to all those students participating in extra-curricular activities this term and hope you taste success following the commitment to training and rehearsal you've made in the lead-up to your events.

Families, I hope you all have a lovely week. As the weather starts to cool and we come into the winter cold and flu season, I hope you all stay warm and healthy.

Mrs Michelle O’Connor
