Empowering Student Learning with New Digital Tools

The Library expands its range of authoritative Online Resources

I'm so excited to share that our library is introducing two fantastic new products to support student learning - LibPaths and Encyclopedia Britannica!  Both of these will make researching, exploring new ideas, and finding trustworthy information easier than ever.

LibPaths is like having a personal guide for our students' research.  It brings together curated collections of reliable, age-appropriate sources on a huge range of topics - perfect for projects, assignments, or just curious minds wanting to learn more.

Encyclopedia Britannica is another brilliant addition.  It's packed with expertly written articles that are fact-checked and kept up-to-date, helping students quickly find accurate information they can trust.

These new tools will sit alongside our other great online resources, including:

  • NewsBank, which gives access to news articles from trusted local, national and international sources, is great for keeping up with current events and issues.
  • ClickView, a video platform full of educational programs, documentaries, and short clips that bring learning to life.
  • LinksPlus, which provides curated and safe web links aligned to the curriculum, saving students hours of searching.
  • Gale: Global Issues, an excellent database that explores worldwide social, political, and environmental topics with depth and balance.

Together, these platforms offer students a world of information that's authoritative, engaging and fact-checked - all at their fingertips.  I am looking forward to seeing how students use these tools to enhance their learning, expand their thinking and explore new interests.

All resources are available 24/7 on the Sandringham College Library Website.

It's always great to see Mr Hiotis during lunch, enjoying some 'quiet' reading time in the library!  It's a simple but powerful example for students, showing that reading isn't just for the classroom or bookworms - it's a normal, enjoyable part of everyday life. Whether it's a novel, a biography, or even a book about sports, seeing a familiar face with a book helps reinforce the message that reading is for everyone!

Uno Tournament

UNO Showdown: Who Knew Card Games Could Get This Intense?

The annual UNO tournament was back, and this year, about 20 fierce competitors battled it out for card-playing glory. What started as a friendly game quickly turned into nail-biting suspense—turns of fate, wild cards, and the occasional “Wait, which rules are we following again?” kept everyone on their toes!

After a whirlwind of flips, skips, and reverses, the champions emerged:

Maoz claimed 1st place,

Zane took 2nd,

Harris snagged 3rd,

Sam finished strong in 4th.

Congrats to our UNO masters! The tension, the strategy, and the laughs made this tournament one to remember—proof that sometimes, the simplest games can bring out the fiercest competition.
