Teaching & Learning

Olivia Grant | Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning

On Tuesday 28th October, the staff at Sandringham College came together for an important day of professional learning focused on how humans learn, and therefore, how we should teach to maximise learning for every student at our college. The core focus for the day was learning about Cognitive Load Theory (CLT) and Explicit Instruction and their connection with Victoria’s new teaching and learning model, the VTLM 2.0.

In 2026 and beyond, we are going to be working hard across the college to bring the VTLM 2.0 to life in every classroom using consistent classroom routines, explicit instruction and a knowledge rich curriculum. Victoria’s new teaching and learning model is underpinned by the latest evidence about how humans learn, and we are confident that it is going to have a profoundly positive impact on academic achievement and student wellbeing.

Staff engagement on the day was brilliant, and we are very fortunate to have an incredible team of leaders, teachers and ES staff, ready to put theory into action.

There is more than a little excitement in the air. Sandringham College is already known for academic excellence, but its future is going to be even bigger and brighter. Watch this space!
