Year 9 Life Saving Victoria Program

Hampton Beach

Year 9 students recently took part in Life Saving Victoria’s Open Water Learning Experience at Hampton Beach. This practical program helps students build water safety knowledge, swimming skills, and confidence in open water. They learned how to stay safe, assist others, and make smart decisions around water. It was a fun and important day that supports our goal of keeping students safe in aquatic environments.

Unit 3/4 OES – Edithvale–Seaford Wetlands & Melbourne Cable Park

Unit 3/4 students visited the Edithvale–Seaford Wetlands to explore how conservation efforts protect local ecosystems. These wetlands are home to many native species, demonstrating how human activity can be balanced with environmental care.

Later, students visited Melbourne Cable Park, a built environment that allows people to engage with nature in a safe, managed way. It also supports the local economy by creating jobs and attracting visitors. This excursion helped students understand how outdoor spaces can offer both environmental and economic value.

Year 9 Outdoor Education Camp

Wilsons Promontory

Year 9 students spent three days exploring Wilson's Promontory as part of their Outdoor Education Recreation Studies elective. After a lunch stop in Meeniyan, the group arrived at the Prom ready for a full program of outdoor learning.

Students hiked to the summit of Mt Oberon, stand-up paddleboarded on the Darby River, and surfed at Waratah Bay.

They set up tents, cooked in small groups, and followed Leave No Trace principles to reduce their impact on the environment.

This camp supports key learning in the elective. Students explored how people connect with nature and what motivates them to spend time outdoors. They learned how to manage risks, follow safety guidelines, and take part in outdoor activities with confidence. They also reflected on their own environmental impact and looked at ways to act more sustainably.
