Butterfly Update

Last week, we shared about the chrysalis in the Year 1 and 2 Community. Early this week we had the first Monarch butterfly emerge from its chrysalis in the Year 1/2 Community. When the chrysalis opens, the children will be able to watch the butterfly emerge and see its swollen abdomen and crinkled wings. They will observe the wings dry and stretch out, and the butterfly begin to move around the cage.

The butterflies have been released. They can only stay in the cage for 2 days, so they need to be released so they can feed.

We now have had 2 butterflies emerge, with 7 more left. The remaining chrysalis are now starting to change in colour. We hope they will all be butterflies by next week.
