Mental Health & Wellbeing Report 

Dear Parents and Guardians,

 

This edition of Partners in Learning focuses on updates from VicPol and Melton Young Communities about events and programs happening in the community over the next few weeks

 

Child Restraint-

From August to October, the focus is on ensuring children are properly restrained when travelling in cars. The council will advertise three (3)  free child restraint days in October, where families can have their child seats checked to ensure they are safe and compliant with all regulations. 

As more information becomes available, we will share it with the community.

 

Blue Light Disco-

The Proactive Policing Unit (PPU) are running a Blue Light Disco at St Albans Community Centre for students in grades 3-6. This is a ticketed event with a limited number of tickets available. For additional information or to purchase tickets, please contact Blue Light directly at enquiries@bluelight.org.au  

 

Fresh Fades-

Melton Young Communities will once again run the Fresh Fades program for members of the local community. If you or someone in your family needs a free haircut, please register using the QR code on the information sheet below. 

Young Communities has also said several cultural barbers will attend and can work with specific hair types.

Kurunjang Secondary College 40th year Celebration-

Kurunjang Secondary College will run a community event as part of its 40th-anniversary celebrations on 8/10/2026. The event will include several community stalls and activities. This again will be a fully ticketed event with a limited number of tickets.

Dogs Connect-

We would like to introduce you to our new school dog, Milo, a 14-week-old Cobberdog. Milo is living with Miss Andrea and is currently undertaking her training in order to become a therapy dog onsite at Melton West Primary School in the middle of term 4. Please keep your eyes out for more information as Milo continues their training. We will be starting a countdown as it gets closer to Milo's arrival

Friendship Problems and Social Stress-

On Thursday 10 September, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm, there is a free Webinar being presented around  - Helping kids manage social issues on and offline

In this session, they will touch on the following:

  • Understand Why Friendship Issues Feel So Big: Why social problems, fallouts and shifting friendships can hit kids so hard.

  • Make Sense of Bullying and Exclusion: How social dynamics, both online and in person, can escalate quickly.

  • Help Kids Respond to Social Challenges: Ways to support kids through conflict, fallouts, and social stress.

If you can't make this session live, don't stress: Wellio, the company running the webinar, will send the recording and any relevant supporting resources to all registrants after the session.
