Alternative Entry Requirements for Teacher Qualifications

Students considering applying to enrol in an undergraduate teaching course in Victoria in 2027 are advised to pay careful attention to the entry requirements for each university.  Some will require the Casper (as mentioned above), others may accept the Casper or their own, whilst others may only require their own, and not the Casper.  The table below is to be used as a guide only, and students should refer to VTAC and the individual university websites for the most up-to-date information.

Casper Entry Requirements for Teacher Qualifications

Casper is an online test designed to assess an applicant’s personal and professional attributes. Casper is a requirement of applying to many initial teaching training courses in Victoria - Casper.  Casper typically takes 65-85 minutes to complete. There are 2 main sections, with 11 scenarios which require typed and video responses.

Many universities offering undergraduate teaching courses will be requiring students sit the Casper online test as part of the selection into teaching degrees in 2027. Students are encouraged to browse VTAC and determine which courses will require the Casper for selection.  Students might also like to browse Casper FAQs and have a look at Casper Preparation too. New Courses in 2027

Monash is pleased to announce that several new courses are set to commence in 2027.

• Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence: 3 years 
• Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Architectural Studies: 5 years 
• Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Art History and Curating: 5 years 
• Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Design: 5 years 
• Bachelor of Architectural Studies and Bachelor of Global Studies 4 years 
• Bachelor of Design in chosen specialisation and Bachelor of Global Studies: 4 years 
• Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours): 4 years, Doctor of Pharmacy: 1 year 
• Allied Health – Occupational Therapy: 3 years (eligible rural and regional students only)
• Allied Health – Physiotherapy: 3 years (eligible rural and regional students only)

• Allied Health – Podiatry: 3 years (eligible rural and regional students only)

Updates regarding Engineering at Monash

• There have been some updates around entry into Engineering at Monash. 
• Biology (study score of 30) is being added as a prerequisite from Sem 1 2027.  So students can enter with Biology (30) OR Physics (25) OR Chemistry (25), plus existing maths and English requirements. 
• Subject bonusing will be removed from Sem 1 2027 for all Engineering managed courses 
• From Sem 1 2027, the Engineering/Arts double degree will now take 5.5 years to    complete, but ALL Arts majors will now be available (this was previously restricted) 
• From Sem 1 2027, the Engineering/Law double degree will take 6.5 years.

News from La Trobe University

Sport and Recreation Management Degree

Introduced in 2025, La Trobe offers the Bachelor of Sport and Recreation Management, a 3-year degree being offered at the Melbourne Campus in Bundoora. The focus of the degree is to equip students with skills and knowledge on how to provide a range of experiences and community events that drive physical activity, community development and general wellbeing outcomes for individuals and communities. 

In this degree, students explore topics such as program design, sport coaching, human resource management, marketing, delivery and evaluation, government policy and funding, facility and venue management, sport law, professional communication and more. The VCE entry requirements are Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or at least 20 in English other than EAL, as well as an ATAR.

Course Updates

Over the coming weeks, La Trobe will be announcing details of three new courses, so watch this space!  They are:

1. Bachelor of Artificial Intelligence Engineering (Honours) focus on focusing on AI, with opportunities to major/minor in Medical Manufacturing with Industry Based Learning.
2. Bachelor of Languages and Linguistics designed to strengthen academic quality, boost employability and offer greater flexibility.
3. Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science/Bachelor of Food and Nutrition integrating exercise physiology, sports performance and nutritional science

        Pharmacy News 

Any place there are medicines, there are pharmacists. This means that the pool of opportunities for pharmacy graduates is large and diverse. Monash University has published a very useful booklet outlining twenty-two pharmacy careers.

Important update: The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons) / Master of Pharmacy will be restructured to a Doctor of Pharmacy program. This is to bring Monash into line with the entry/practice standards of the Pharmacy Board and global standards. It will remain a 5-year program, with a heavier workload in the final year. Details will be published in the coming weeks.

Missing Prerequisites for Allied Health or Education?

ACU now offers free short courses in mathematics and human biology to help students build confidence and meet prerequisites for selected ACU courses.Courses include 20 hours of flexible self-paced learning and enrolments open 28 September 2026.  Students seeking entry for Semester 1, 2027 can complete a short course and sit an ACU entrance test on: Thursday, 3 December 2026. 

Students applying through the TAC main rounds should sit the test on 3 December 2026. There will be a January test date, but the results will only be considered in later Offer Rounds if there are still places in courses.  Completion of a short course and entrance test does not guarantee admission.  Students must still meet all other course entry requirements.

Swinburne Early Entry Program 2026

Applications are open, and close 27 November 2026.

Open to domestic and onshore international students. Requirements: Year 12 pass, meet VCE prerequisite study scores, no ATAR required. Students must also make a VTAC application. We know your ATAR doesn't tell the full story of what you’re capable of as a Uni student.  This is a different way to enter university that will not depend on your ATAR. 

The Early Entry Program at Swinburne is a unique opportunity for current Year 12 students to receive a conditional offer based on a recommendation by the school and not based on an ATAR.  The program includes options for VCE VM and unscored VCE students, and these students can now receive an early offer from Swinburne for twelve different diploma/degree packaged pathways.

Details of the application process, as well as participating courses can be found below.

1. Application process - Students must organise a recommendation from a school representative – the school’s principal, the year level coordinator, a teacher, or the Career Practitioner, in order to proceed with an application.

2. Eligible courses - Courses that will be offered through this program can be found at Early Entry Program Eligible Courses, and students can only apply for one course.3. Recommendation form - Once an application is submitted, students will receive a confirmation email which will include the form they need to forward to their chosen school representative who will complete the form and return it to Swinburne, who will match the student’s application.

Applications are open, and close 27 November 2026.  Early Entry Program application outcomes will start being issued from 1 September 2026, and the offer will become unconditional once students successfully complete Year 12 and meet the course prerequisites – for example, a course may require an English study score of 25 or an EAL study score of 30.

      VU Early Entry Program

Tackle VCE with confidence, knowing you have a head start on your future with an early entry program unique to you! Year 11 or 12 students studying VCE, VCE Vocational Major, Unscored VCE or an International Baccalaureate in Victoria, are eligible for VU Early Entry.

Applications open on 21 April 2026 at Victoria University’s Early Entry Program and will close 15 October 2026. 

   Aspire Program for 2027 Entry

                             Closes Friday 4 September

Aspire Community Impact Program -Open to domestic and permanent resident students only. The Aspire Community Impact rewards Year 12 students for their volunteering or community contribution experience with an early conditional offer for most undergraduate courses at La Trobe.

A number of Aspire Scholarships, worth $5,000 per year for up to four years, will be awarded to leading eligible Aspire students. When applying, applicants are required to provide information about the length and frequency of their community service and/or volunteering experience. 

Aspire Academic Impact Program, is open to domestic and permanent resident students only. Applications open Wednesday 1 April 2026 and close on Friday 4 September 2026.  Students can nominate up to three courses and should do their research as they cannot edit these once their application is submitted.

         Deakin Guaranteed ATAR

Guaranteed ATARs for 2027 Entry The Deakin Guaranteed ATAR provides access for more students, so you can secure a place in the course you want.

Deakin is providing lower upfront guaranteed ATARs for eligible students from under-represented cohorts at Deakin. This may mean students who attend an under-represented school – see list hereOR live or study in a regional or remote home or school location OR are of Indigenous Australian descent . Applications will be made through VTAC later in the year.

Deakin Uni Ready

Deakin Uni is excited to introduce Deakin Uni Ready, a new fee-free government funded program designed to support prospective students into university study. The program will assist students who do not meet entry requirements or have completed secondary school without receiving an ATAR. Deakin Uni Ready is a part-time yearlong program, delivered in 6-week intensive blocks fully online.  

It is part of the Australian Government’s Fee Free Uni Ready initiative.  The program includes 3 core units and 1 elective that aligns to the student’s future chosen degree pathway. Current Year 12 students can plan to apply for Trimester 1, 2027.

After completing Deakin Uni Ready, students can apply for a range of Deakin undergraduate degrees, including: 

• Bachelor of Arts
• Bachelor of Business
• Bachelor of Communication 
• Bachelor of Creative Arts 
• Bachelor of Criminology 
• Bachelor of Design 
• Bachelor of Early Childhood Education 
• Bachelor of Health Sciences 
• Bachelor of Information Technology

Upon completion, students must apply through the Deakin applicant portal for their chosen bachelor degree. There is no guaranteed entry, and students will apply through the standard admissions process.

Key Medicine Dates for 2027 Entry

Year 12 students are reminded that the selection process for direct entry into medicine at Clayton consists of three equally weighted components:

• ATAR, including adjustment factors, e.g. Special Entry Access Scheme (SEAS);
• UCAT ANZ (University Clinical Aptitude Test for Australia and New Zealand) total score; and,
• Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) performance.

On Friday, 2 October 2026 all VTAC applicants will receive an email from the Faculty outlining the application process and instructions to apply for the Dean’s Rural List (DRL).

This will be sent to the email used in the VTAC application.  Should students not have received an email by 5pm, they are advised to check their spam/junk folder before contacting Monash. Applications for the DRL will close at 12pm (midday) Friday, 9 October 2026 (Melbourne local time).

Bachelor of Social Work

Are you passionate about improving the lives of children and families and helping to build strong communities for current and future generations?  The Bachelor of Social Work is available for study at Fed Uni’s Berwick, Gippsland, and Mt. Helen campuses. This course has been co-designed with local partners to address this specific skills shortage. 

Students will participate in 140 days of placement, during which they will be exposed to challenging real-life situations in social work settings.  Experienced professionals in the field will support students every step of the way. They will become confident working with children and families, people of diverse cultural backgrounds and gender diversity.

Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine

The combined degree, the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (BMedScMD), accredited by the Australian Medical Council, prepares students to take a front-line leadership role as a doctor in health care delivery. 

Applications opened on 1 August 2026 and closes at 11:59 pm on 30 September 2026 AEST. Students must apply directly to UTAS via the online portal - Apply to UTAS. 

Academic Excellence Scheme

This admission pathway recognises high performance in English and mathematics by applying adjustment factors to boost your selection rank.Students who demonstrate excellence in high-level English or mathematics in their Year 12 exams, you can attain up to five adjustment factors towards their ATAR to boost their selection rank.

To be eligible for the Academic Excellence Scheme, a student must:

• be a domestic student
• apply for an undergraduate course commencing in Semester 1 or 2
• be completing the VCE the year before university admission (this includes students completing their studies outside of Australia)
• achieve one of the following results in English or mathematics:A study score of 33 – 38+ in English/EAL/Literature or in Maths Methods and/or Specialist Maths

To be considered, students simply apply for their chosen course through UAC.  If they are eligible for adjustment factors, these will automatically be added to their ATAR for all eligible courses on their preference list.

 Exercise and Sports Science Course Change

The Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science will be replaced by the Bachelor of Clinical Exercise Physiologyfrom January 2027. 

The new program provides a stronger clinical focus, preparing students to work with people living with chronic and complex medical conditions, while still covering exercise science, athletic performance and rehabilitation. 

Key differences between the current and new program:

• Duration extended from 2 years to 2 years 4 months
• Increased practical placement from 140 hours to 500 hours
• Designed to align with dual ESSA accreditation pathways as both an Accredited Exercise Scientist (AES) and Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP)
• Stronger clinical training in exercise prescription, pathophysiology, behaviour change and digital health
• Expanded career outcomes across hospitals, rehabilitation, allied health clinics, community health and sports settings 

Entry requirements: ATAR 70.00, and subject pre-requisites: English, General Mathematics, and one of Biology, Physics or Physical Education.
