Students in Kindergarten to Year 6 have been participating in a Chinese language program called the Meg Language Program. The Meg Curriculum is written by the co-author of the Australian Curriculum. Students and teachers have engaged in this digital learning platform via Zoom for weekly sessions.
The interactive lessons have enabled students and teachers to engage in dialogue with the Mandarin teachers and learn about the culture of China.
The students have demonstrated enthusiasm in learning about people from a different environment and the opportunity to learn another language.
As part of the evaluation process for this schoolwide program we invite parents to complete a survey using the link below.
The survey opens on Friday 20th October and will close on Friday 27 October.

School attendance plays a role in enhancing the lives of students in schools. Every day of attendance adds to a student’s academic achievement and success at school and conversely, every absence can impact their learning and progress.
Systemic Catholic primary schools in the Archdiocese of Sydney must record daily student attendance. Numerous absences including partial days can have a negative impact on quality learning time. All academic research on attendance has a direct correlation between high attendance and improved academic success.
Parents/carers of students enrolled at an SCS school are required to:
• Ensure their child attends school each day unless exempt or absent for an approved reason.
• Explain the absence of a student as soon as possible and within 7 school days from the
first day of absence, otherwise the school will record the absence as an unexplained absence.
• Provide a medical certificate where a student’s frequent, recurring or long term absence
is explained as being due to illness.
• Apply in advance for planned student leave.Student leave of 5 days or greater requires Principal approval.
• Work in partnership with the school and SCS to address any issues impacting on a student’s attendance.
Notre Dame University Student Teachers
We welcome the practicum students from Notre Dame University this term and wish them every success with their professional teaching experience. The practicum teachers will be working collaboratively with teachers designing a variety of teaching and learning activities aligned with the Australian Curriculum and National Professional Teaching Standards to engage the students in authentic learning experiences.
At the Staff Development Day on Monday 9th October teachers engaged with the new Mathematics Syllabus to consolidate their understanding of content and resources for years K- 2 and to prepare for the implementation of the new Syllabus for Years 3-6 in 2024.
The new Mathematics K-10 Syllabus recognises the critical importance of developing an increasingly sophisticated understanding of mathematical concepts, and fluency with mathematical processes, to help students interpret and solve problems.
Through the study of mathematics, students develop essential concepts and skills and apply them to deepen their understanding of the world.
In years K- 6 students:
The Syllabus outcomes have been organised to reflect the connections across and within the mathematics concepts of number and algebra, measurement and space, statistics and probability.
Teachers will be using professional learning time during the term to deepen their understanding of the new Syllabus and to design engaging teaching and learning programs.
