Our highlights in Year 3


 'The Body Investigators' Incursion

The Year 3 students were immersed in a healthy body incursion, The Body Investigators, and gained an understanding of how diet physical activity and sleep can impact their body’s performance. This incursion linked closely to Inquiry Investigations topic in Term 1 - Good Health and Wellbeing. 

I liked learning about parts of the body like blood cells and the digestive system. - Ariana

We got to explore all parts of the body through fun activities. - Noyan

I liked dressing up in different costumes and exploring the different body systems.

I liked how we were able to wear costumes and learn more about how our digestive system works. - Eleanor  

I liked how we explored what is going on in our bodies. - Karen

Students entered an unhealthy body via the nose, and role played the different body systems, learning the importance of looking after their body.

It was fun that we were able to fix Bazza’s body because it was full of junk food.

Collingwood Children's Farm Excursion 

As part of our Term 2 Inquiry Investigations topic, Responsible Consumption and Production, we visited and explored different gardens, landscapes and ecosystems at the Collingwood Children's Farm. 

I liked how we could pet the sheep and learn about sustainable practices. - Paige

I really enjoyed seeing all of the chickens. - Rosie 

I enjoyed patting the animals and learning about how the Indigenous tribes survived. - Venya, Tanvi and Ariana 

Through hands-on exploration, we developed our knowledge of biodiversity, soil health and the effect that humans have on the environment around us. The Year 3 students applied their new knowledge to consider the ways living things rely on each other and their environments to survive. 

I liked learning about compost and how we measured it with a thermometer, and noticed it got to 65 degrees. - Zayn 

I liked learning about the microscopic realm and chemicals in the dirt. - Xinwei

We had fun patting all of the sheep but we had to avoid all of the poo. - Josh

I liked seeing the guinea pigs because they were so cute. - Josephine 

I liked learning how the Aboriginals used the waterways. - Leon 

I enjoyed exploring all the different organisms in the dirt. - Jackson


Melbourne Museum Excursion - Climate Change and Victoria's Future 

During this excursion to the Melbourne Museum in Term 3, the Year 3 students explored the issue of climate change. They learned the science behind global warming, examined Victoria’s climate risks and communicated ideas and actions that may be used to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

I liked how they showed us a special Indigenous Australians presentation. - Max B

My favourite part was seeing the dinosaur bones. - Abdul

Taking on the role of science communicators, students worked in small groups and used digital technologies to create data visualisations that helped them communicate about climate change and Victoria’s future.


Camp Rumbug

The Year 3 students attended their very first school camp at Camp Rumbug, located in the beautiful surroundings of Foster North. This fun-filled camp consisted of different activities such as the flying fox, giant swing, canoeing, archery and orienteering. All of the Year 3 students braved the freezing weather conditions, new experiences, heights, very steep hills and came out stronger and more resilient than ever, with new friends and independence. 

I really liked how we got to camp out together in cabins and do lots of fun activities.

I had a lot of fun, like on the flying fox and playing games and I actually slept well.

The flying fox was the best activity because we went really fast. - Jovann 

I overcame my fear of heights on the giant swing. - Emma G

The flying fox was so much fun as we went really fast over the lake. - Boen

Reptile Encounters Incursion 

In Term 4, Year 3 students explored the culture of the traditional custodians of the land we live on here in Australia. Students investigated how to live sustainably on the land, about totem animals and also were absorbed in Dreamtime stories. 

 I really liked how we got to learn more Indigenous Dreamtime stories and my favourite animal was the Rainbow Serpent snake. - Ethan B 

I really liked it because we got to learn about different animals and their Dreamtime stories, and I had a frog on my head. - Ryan H 

The students were introduced to a range of different Australian animals and gained a deeper understanding of the Dreamtime stories around each animal. 

When we were holding the snake it felt scaly and cool. - Phoebe

I liked holding the rainbow serpent. It was slimy. - Shashank 

I liked petting the sugar glider and learning about the Indigenous stories. - Olivia W
